Has anybody tried to put one on an open station tractor? Realize this is an very old discussion. I wanted to mount the camera and screen on a board attached to the fender, but was warned the picture would wash out. I thought about making a hood around the screen. Wonder how deep it would have to be?

I tried one of these cheap ones on an open tractor. Was useless in the sunlight.

I have a canopy now and it has limited usefulness under the canopy but doesn't replace looking behind you in most instances. Part of that with me is I need glasses to see the screen well and I usually don't wear them when I'm running the tractor.

My L3200 was an open station & the weatherproof Pyle monitor I got had a 2-3" hood on it. I didn't fix it when it broke as it wasn't useful & always washed out. Not motivated enough to put one on my cabbed L4060hstc because of the poor results the first go around.

I am going to put one in my 8050 as I can't see the SSQA from the seat,
Just haven't ordered one to install, I'm not sure what I'll end up with.
Did put one in my sander truck and it is handy but I'm not real thrilled with the color rendition or the clarity.
That one is a wireless one, I won't bother with that again as you still have to wire power out to the camera or mount and recharge a battery for it.
It has a 7 inch monitor in the truck and I think I want to go with a 9 inch possibly with a split screen capability.
I believe it would aid in switching implements on the loader SSQA as well as the operation at times.

No problem using it on my open station tractor. I had planned to make a hood and never got around to it -- wasn't needed.

A reply like this begs the question:

WHAT brand and model camera and display are you using? Got links to the product?

OK, I guess you can use a cheap one and put a hood around the monitor made out of most anything, plastic jug, aluminum flashing, plastic board used on signs. One guy suggested a weather proof electrical box. I was going to use a 3 ft board attached to the fender with magnets, the camera on one end pointed at the equipment and the monitor on the other end. Easy to adjust and take off and move from tractor to tractor or just keep out of the weather.

There are simple cameras for $50 and elaborate ones for $500.

Same one in post #501 above. There are a whole bunch of these on amazon that look about the same with different brand names, I suspect it's Chinese cloned products (so don't overpay for a name). Quality is about average but they are so cheap I don't worry -- if it breaks I'd buy another one.

I made my own hood for my iphone for drone use.

Pretty high tech, but I suspect I could do one for my tractor.

Bump. Never got my camera installed.

never did install mine either. Hard to find enough down time with the tractor to pull the roof and figure out all the wiring.

My contribution to the epic 7 year running camera thread...
I finally installed my forward and rear camera system! 1080 P resolution, wired cameras, and 7" monitor.
I read about too many complaints about wireless video lag, so I went wired. I think it's actually easier to install since the video cables carry the power to the cameras. One point at the monitor for the two power connections, run video cables, mount cameras and monitor. Voila. I should add that it wasn't $50. I spent about $200.

I'd thought that I'd posted pictures but apparently I had not. So... Here is what I came up with for a movable front camera mount, one that can protect the camera and take a beating (needs to provide some give). It's a section of a PTO shaft cover with a spray can lid fitted in the front with a hole to receive the camera (in theory the camera will snap-fit in) I need to perfect this- can't use any drill or saw to make the hole in that plastic as it's too brittle- need to cut with heat. Attaching to the tractor is accomplished via a couple of super magnets; one on the inside of the shaft guard and one on the outside (they pinch and hold the inner cap from rotating/moving- can kind of see this in the picture taken on the backside); an additional piece of plastic goes between the outside magnet and whatever you're going to attach to (otherwise the super magnet is going to stick like crazy and scratch paint). I struggle with placement in order to SEE when I'm using my pallet forks. I've found that moving the camera to the brush guard's vertical side bracket allow me to angle the camera up or down for best angle: display on monitor then needs to be rotated to match reality.

Looking from the front:

From the rear:

Yes, no front grill guard. I know I'll curse myself, but with over 1,800 hrs operating two tractors in really nasty stuff I have not really damaged anything at the front: I need a top hood guard, though, as I've managed to dent the tops of BOTH hoods!

Most backup camera systems are controlled by a switch that monitors the transmission indicator switch and operates only when you're backing up .Will your camera setup stand up to continuous service?

I'll answer that.
My installation has run as much as 3 hours continuously and shown no ill effects.

Also using a strong magnet as your mounting method is a very practical method.
Recently there has been a large selection to be found, many with holes for attaching your camera,
In fact I even magnet mounted my display using a magnet.
Also all my LED floods, spot and beacon also use magnets.
IMHO magnet mounting is the way to go.

Snag a light on a limb, simply fish it back and re attach with no, or rare, damage.
Also easy to re position for optimal effects.

Yeah, I have run mine for up to 6-7 hours a day, 2-3 days a week, for about 7 years now. For crappy cheap camera and screen, it's done well. I think I was all in for well under $50. This is one of the best threads of all time on TBN.

Would love to figure out a way to set one up on my open station tractor for use when blowing snow. Keeping my head in a forward position with a helmet on will keep me warm and dry regardless of the wind.. Well, I'll figure something out.
