Just checking to see if anyone has built anything similar and if you used anything similar in beam size, etc? I haven't built it yet but would like to so any advice is appreciated.

Everything looks fine, but I would tie the 2x6 into the into a double 2x10 on the high and low side. Depending on where you live will be the big reason for determining pitch and spacing on the rafters . Once all that is tied in, I would mount 1x4s to the top of the 2x6 no more than 3 ft apart going up the rise. You can let the tin stick out 6 inches over the boards length wise. They can also width wise that much as long as there is a 1x4 under it.

Will the 2x6 span that 18 feet? I am doing something similar for a lean to and thought 12-14 ft was as far as I could get.

A 2x6 would handle the weight of the roof fine. If you can’t find them in that length you could scab 2 together or use 2x8. The only problem I have have getting 2x6 was when I needed 18 ft treated ones to replace the floor in my utility trailer. A lot of places I called had untreated 2x6 in that length. I found one place that had the 2x6x18 treated in stock.

Lenny, with you being in Vermont, your calculator might be determining for snow load. You would want a higher pitch to help shed snow and ice better. I’m not real familiar with snow loads so maybe someone that is could tell you more accurately than myself.

Have you considered steel?

Thanks. Just to make sure I'm understanding, I should double the 2x10 on the 30 foot side and put in something like a rafter hanger to attach them to the beam?

I was just going to connect 2 lengths together somehow. I live in central Texas, no snow loads and rain is only heavy in some years.

For the design, it wouldn't have the aesthetics we're looking for. Of course, if it falls to pieces, it won't look much better :)
