Mad Mac sorry to hear about your grapple. I do agree no matter how tough something is nothing is indestructible.

I added links to the images. Anyone else having trouble seeing the images originally posted?

I see the pictures in the links now. Ouch. I would not have thought that log would damage the grapple.

Well, not by itself it didn't. It was the culmination of three years of abuse. That pine log was still full of pine tar, pitch, resin, sap, whatever it's called. It was so heavy it mashed the front tires down and lifted the back wheels off the ground. Our Mahindra 5555 weighs three tons.

This morning, I woke up at five am with a solution to this problem. If it's practical, it would be the strongest single lid root grapple on the planet. Assembly would be a bit more fiddly but very little additional material would be required, keeping down the cost and the weight.

Add two hinges for the lid, one on each side of the bracket for the hydraulic cylinder. That would take a load off the bracket and make the lid itself a stressed member to help oppose the force of the hydraulic cylinder and greatly stiffen the long top bar.

Spacers could be added between the hinges and the bracket to form a claw, making the assembly even stronger. The claw would have to be put on the lid pivot bar when the lid was being welded up, then weld the claw to the top bar of the main frame when the outer hinges are attached.

The Xtremely Wicked Root Grapple.

It looks like EA is already doing something like that with the Best Rated 66 Inch Wicked Root Rake Grapple from Everything Attachments

The hydraulic cylinder mount has been cracked for a while. That will cause the lid not to close all the way

This is your picture of the front of the mount:

I think all you need to do is strengthen the mount at the base where it attaches to the frame.

Here is your view of the hinges:

One thing everyone needs to keep in mind is that the grapples need to be greased before they are used. I'd used mine for a few minutes and went to pull a small branch that was stuck in the teeth and noticed the dry grease fittings. It may have been mentioned before but I figured a reminder wouldn't hurt.

This is one happy camper.

Over the phone while standing in front of my crippled 72-inch Wicked, Travis gently pointed out that my 6,000 pound, four wheel drive Mahindra 5555 might benefit from the heavy duty 73-inch Wicked for mega utility tractors.

After I abused a Wicked for more than three years, Ted weighed in and went above and beyond to work with me and made me an offer to get into the big Wicked that I couldn't refuse. Sight unseen, I jumped on it.

After looking at the monster online, I'm stoked and really looking forward to getting it. It's painful for companies to sacrifice profits today in the name of customer service over the long run. Everything Attachments is without a doubt the most outstanding company I have ever dealt with when it comes to customer relations. I cannot recommend EA more highly.

Get one.

I too can vouch for EA... I have bought SEVERAL implements from EA and can't say enough good... As for the EA grapples, my favorite is the dual-lid 66"... An extremely efficient/versatile/capable workhorse around here... All my farmer-neighbor-friends drool over it...

4 week wait is up, now I have to wait an unknown amount of further time. This is going to have me checking my email constantly.

EA definitely seems to have the formula dialed in for quality and customer service. Travis steered me right 2-1/2 years ago in sizing a grapple for my NX4510 HST Cab. Suggested the 60" dual-lid Wicked, instead of 66" or 72", for occasional use in the woods and easier, quicker penetration when digging roots. Not only is it perfect for that tractor, it's equally so on my CK3510SE HST.

Neighbor of mine just ordered a box blade and landscape rake from EA.

The only drawback with EA is the lead time on orders. It's a nice problem for them to have. But with their new factory, I suspect wait times will decline due to more production capacity.

Grapples are pretty basic attachments, you need to consider, price, size, weight and style. Not a whole lot else.

Material, workmanship, efficiency of the design, customer service, long term reviews, and I'm sure others can think of more. Even the simplest of tools can be refined.
