I decided it was time to give my poor dump truck a makeover. IMG_1622.JPGIMG_1598.JPG

I致e always liked hickory hardwood flooring because of how much color it has but I致e also hated working with it.
For some "interesting grain",try blackjack oak (Quercus marilandica),it's so loved and respected around here that firewood vendors refuse to cut them down.

Hadn’t done a bunch in the shop lately, but I did mop the floor and roll one of my cars in to finish prepping it for this season. IMG_0986.jpg

Thank you, all my other shops have always been bare bones no frills, always wanted to try a clean set up.

Tapping Essentials - Every Machinist Needs to Watch This - Haas Automation Tip of the Day - YouTube

this video was showcased by Autoweek magazine this week, for a non machinist this was vey interesting to me.
I have a set of taps and dies and no knowledge to go with them. This helps. 18 minutes, basic info

So what did you last use a tap for?

I also found that video very interesting - thanks for posting it. Last time I used a tap was for a 5/16 hole in a SSQA plate. Needed to mount a cushion valve and one hole required a stud or bolt because the back of the hole was located inside a welded on channel. Used a bolt and nut in the other hole. It was a hand tap job - now I have to go look to see if it was a taper tap or a plug tap that I used. Didn't know the difference before that video.

I recently used my Tap and Die set for the first time actually to make a bolt. I had a bolt that was too long and only partially threaded so I cut it down and ran the Die down it. During the same time I tapped a hole I drilled in some steel on my shop to run that bolt through. It was kind of interesting. It is very simple but I felt like a reached a whole new level of "handyman" when I used that tap and die set for the first time. With the right tools and YouTube, there isn't a lot a motivated hard working man couldn't fix, build, make, or figure out.
