Dang' the white rabbit has passed on. Marty Balin, cofounder of Jefferson Airplane died at 76. Of course, Grace Slick's voice was the voice that made White Rabbit a hit one could argue but dang it', another great one has passed. That of course IMHO.

The inspiration for "Peggy Sue" has passed away. She was actually married to one of the members of Buddy Holly's band for a time.

Peter Tork of the Monkees dead at 77.

About 30 years ago I drove from Seattle to Anchorage in a van with three friends. We had a handful of cassettes. The only one we weren't all sick of by the end was the Monkees' greatest hits. Cheer up, sleepy Jean.

I probably filled your tank if you gassed up at The Hub of Alaska in Glennallen. In '69 a few dudes pulled in to get gas and gave me an 8-Track of their band "Canned Heat". "Goin up the Country" was their anthem later at Woodstock.

Another funny thing... if you watch Canned Heat at Woodstock playing "Woodstock Boogie" the guitarist has a STP sticker on his guitar that I gave them while passing thru here.

Cheer Up sleepy Jean was a line from the song Day Dream Believer written by John Stewart. Stewart was a classic....member of the Kingston Trio....saw him at various clubs more than a hundred times over the years...one of my favorites. He tells a funny story about that song....check this out. Stewart died a few years back.

Yes. They had a nice interview with him on Sunday. He's got some sort of affliction that he noticed about 3 years ago. Couldn't lift his arms over his head. And he's had a few falls. He said it will eventually affect his fingers, and, well, guitarists need their fingers (according to him). So he's been in the studio, recorded something like 30+ new things, and is going on tour one last time before his fingers stop working well. He said he doesn't want to disappoint the people that listen to his concerts by not being able to play well, so he's calling it quits after that.

I've always liked Peter Frampton's music. I have a special affinity for it, though, as when I was learning to play bass guitar in the early '80s, his Breaking All The Rules song was a fairly big hit at the time. It was the first song I learned the bass line in it's entirety. I've had the privilege of chatting with him on a couple of occasions, and he's a super nice guy. Amazingly humble for his legendary status. While it's a bummer that he's battling this affliction, it's nice to see that he's ending his career on his own terms. I have a great admiration for musicians who can make that kind of decision.

I liked what he said to his kids. 'It's not life ending. It's life changing."

I saw Alvin Lee and ten years after, back in the 70s in Portland Oregon, they put on a great show.
