Anybody own a Guardline Driveway Sensor?

I agree weird. The car/truck are parked in the same place for the last 2 days since the install nothing has changed. Now weak signal to base unit.Go figure?Might consider the 1/4 mile unit down the road. Not sure yet.

Guardline let me ship the return unit freight free, and they basically gave me the 1/4" mile unit at the same price as the 500' model. Don't see why they wouldn't do the same for you if you ask. This is why I think they should just do away with the 500' model or perhaps re lable it to the "100' model" instead.

I would try different receiver locations also. Mine sits right on the window sill. I know nothing about the 500 model but wholeheartedly recommend the 1/4 mile unit. A straight line from mine to the house is pretty much solid trees. I marked on the map the location of my sensors. I also posted a picture of the one closest to the house.

THUMBS up eddie. Not impressed with the guardline 500 ft.Unit.Might be looking into the 1/4 mile one instead..I currently have a older chamberlin driveway alarm that has been flawless for the last 7 years but wanted unit with more sensors around our property.

You may not get them right away if you call. If you get a voice recording, do leave them a message with your number. They will call you back. The first time I called, I think it took them like two days to call me back but the guy was very apologetic and it was before Christmas, so I could see it being busy. They are also in Seattle, so it may be after working hours your time when they call back.

It worked . Range testing will have to wait till it quits raining :(. Got just over 2-1/4 inches so far.

Well it quit raining, so I set the receiver in a upstairs window, put a short hose on the transmitter and took it to the gate. Held the transmitter above my head, it worked from the gate posts on either side, but there were a lot of dead spots also. Move it two inches and it would work, just like any UHF radio system.

Google maps shows it to be 1800 feet, the first 200 feet is through the trees, so it might not work when the leaves turn green.

Of course it worked fine on the downhill side of the trees, it is line of sight to the window.

It's why I never use wireless stuff in my security business. And if I have to, get the most expensive stuff on the market.

Radio is too variable. Noise levels change. I have a garage door some two hundred feet from the house. Most days, using a transmitter from the other side of the living room is not a problem. Some weird days (usually the sunniest) , standing next to the window, holding the transmitter in all kinds of positions will finally get the door to open. Such is the wireless world. Nothing physical has changed outside. That's not something I want for security. I use an underground, wired vehicle sensor, with direction logic and lightning detection. Made by Sure Action.

I have used everything for detection, Beams, Infrared, microwave. Animals will soon make you disregard the thing in the middle of the night, so what's the point. Finally decided on vehicle detection, and they do make solar powered versions. And companies like Innovonics do make high quality alarm links.

At one time, I was thinking of specializing in such things but decided my sanity was more important! Over the years (decades) I bet I made so many trips up and down our thousand foot driveway to service, check or change various systems, it would probably equal the distance to the moon!

Just a hint though, Anything usually works when "testing" it.

My guardline really isn't for security, just a heads up if you will because of the dogs. Dead bolts are the first measure of security, guns are the second measure. I wouldn't trust anything eletronic, no matter how much it costs to put my life on it. Best investment to protect your life? A gun and know how to use it by far.

I agree, my Dakota Alert is to let us know when the mailman or delivery truck comes up the driveway.

If it goes off at two in the morning, I'd say it's a security issue.

we use the mighty mule which we have set up to give us a PLC signal which allows us to control lights and install alarms in different location. So when the drive alarm trips at night it sound in the kennel alerting dogs then there is an out put that turns the lights on. You can't shot at what you can't see. Most people that just wander in, just turn around.:)

No different than an outside light going off at two in the morning.

No matter what electronic device you have, it will not stop someone from getting in your house if they want to get in. The question becomes what if you're in the your own home when someone wants to break in?

My PRIMARy no frills security system has Mossburg, Remington, Sig, Beretta, Glock up on the wall, NOT ADT or CPI or whoever is advertising to call the authorities for you... Call 911 and handle it yourself.

All that said, very happy with our Guardline after I sent the 500' model back and got their 1/4 mile unit.

I just saw the video about the guy in Texas shooting the Vermin having broke into his neighbors house. The guy should get a medal! Those cops took their time getting there, it seemed. Really, they should have just dispatched an old garbage truck to pick up the garbage and haul it away.

BINGO... the ONE thing we did not plan however...

UPS driver showing up unexpectedly and the dogs "going off"....now, once the alarm goes off (me or the wife coming down the driveway back home), the dogs go off LOL Can't win to lose I tell ya... Either way, the dogs still go off, now they just go off earlier BEFORE a vehicle gets to the cattle guard crossing...

And when it's totally reliable it not only tells you when someone is coming but also that someone isn't coming which gives peace of mind.

And when it's totally reliable it not only tells you when someone is coming but also that someone isn't coming which gives peace of mind.

The above is key. We had a unit(cambelin's) that we originally used. I liked it because it had outputs to control the lights. Issue was it is a motion sensor.

From Goggle
Detects body heat (infrare'd energy). Passive infrared sensors are the most widely used motion in home security systems. When your system is armed, your motion sensors are activated. Once the sensor warms up, it can detect heat and movement in the surrounding areas, creating a protective grid

A deer would trip it. On a car it has to detect the exhaust and in the winter with higher winds it would not detect a car coming in. So it was not reliable. Going off in the middle of the night. After a while the family and the dogs were even ignoring it.

The current unit we have does not use a motion sensor, the kid can get it to false. You have to work at it real hard.

Now when it goes off and the dogs are barking you do not get a warm welcome. I am even considering having it input to our network and having it send text to my cell phone! Then I can look at the camera's and know who's going in and out. There are a lot of times i am not near a sensor and well my hearing... but I almost always have my phone. you do however get to the point of being ridiculous and it turns into more of a hobby.
