Snow "Soft" edge for snow removal?

As a new BX24 owner, and coming from a typical lawn tractor, I'm completely unfamiliar with what's available as far as accessories. What I was wondering is if there's a soft edge available that attaches to the loader bucket that would easier on the driveway. I was thinking of something like tire tread material. Anything like that?

There was a post a while back..(two years, I reckon) which described how a guy used horse matting (for the stall floor) cut in a strip and bolted to his blade.
It was pretty tough and pretty cheap!

I used 1/2" strips of UHMW Polyethylene bolted to my loader bucket, rear blade and snowblower. Ordered them from McMaster-Carr. Didn't see much wear and no marks on over 350 feet of concrete driveway last winter. The loader bucket has a bolt on cutting edge I replaced with the plastic. It's almost July; you thinking ahead or is it winter there?

I looked at my bucket last night and can't say I saw any noticeable wear from this season. Allot of it has to do with the surface you are clearing and your angle of attack. This past winter we had ice that I would not have been able to get up without the cutting edge.

I made this cheap and simple snow pusher. The wood doesn't damage the surface and when the wood wears down I just reverse it, then replace it. I do quite a few drives and there is actually little wear.

Use that float feature.

BTW, my dealer told me last week that Curtis is about to announce a plow blade for the BX24 that will attach to the FEL. Detach the bucket, and the plow will fit right in.

I don't like it cause which ever one i needed the other one would probably be on the loader arms.

I like my both always ready to go system way better.

I like the snowpusher made of wood. I'll try to make one for the next snow. I was able to deal with 24" the past weekend with only a FEL and rear blade. A similar snowpusher would have helped a lot. I'll try to remove the toothbar and use the same holes as attachment points.

It definitely moves far less gravel, though time will tell how long it lasts. But then again, I’ve got enough left over for many more pieces.

I bought a Frontier (Deere) front blade that mounts to the loader (QA bucket comes off, blade goes on. It works well if the snow is cleared before it freezes...after freezing, the blade trips pretty frequently.
There's a rubber strip (about an inch and a quarter thick) that replaces the steel cutting edge...does a good job and doesn't tear up the asphalt

I had to wait almost 3 years but finally got the chance to try the rear blade with a piece of TSC stall mat attached.
It definitely moves far less gravel, though time will tell how long it lasts. But then again, I’ve got enough left over for many more pieces.

Depending on the mounting method, you might need longer bolts.

Posts 11 thru 16 -- those are great answers to a common problem all of us have when scraping driveways (paved or stone) with our tractors.

I added wide strips of hard poly to the underside of my bucket used for clearing driveways (do not have a blade in use for that purpose...) I bolted the strips on using carriage bolts imbedding the round bolt heads in the material. Not perfect but works fairly well. The TSC stall mat material has to be a great find for this kind of application.

I'm wondering if that might work on the scraping/cutting edge of the snowblower too ?

Generally you can angle a snowblower up so the cutting edge isnt hitting the ground & it floats on a bit of snow. The geometry of a blower cutting edge is pretty parallel to the ground. On a blade the cutting edge is pretty perpendicular to the ground.

True, good points. And over the years I have found that the angle of the snow blower (best being very slightly upward rather than digging in) is THE major factor.
