Tractor
John Deere 5083e, Kubota L3240
My new 5075E was delivered yesterday. I am now already wanting to start modifications to make the tractor as useful for my needs as possible. I am replacing a Kubota L3240 which I had installed the factory 3rd function kit. I initially thought on the new 5075 I would just run the hoses to the rear remote for a grapple, however, I've quickly decided I can't make it without the 3rd function. That said, I am at a loss as to what is needed for this kit. One of the changes JD has hyped on the 18 50E series tractors is the ability to "field" install a diverter valve without the need to purchase somewhere else. I'm not sure what that means and what is different on the 18 models and what is needed to be purchased. I'm definitely not a hydraulics person and would appreciate any input. My initial thoughts on this is that I may just need to buy the diverter kit and the 3rd function joystick since the Mid valves came on the tractory from the factory with the loader, but I may be wrong about this. Would I be better off to go the JD route or the W. L. Long kit?

Thanks in advance for the responses.

BXX10037 diverter for single point connection, BXX10030 diverter for quick coupler connection. Will also need LVA13698 3rd function joystick if not already installed.

Is there an advantage to getting the quick coupler connection? I can't imagine needing to temporarily remove the diverter.

Do you have to manually divert or is there an electric switch? I would call my dealer and ask them exactly what is needed. Hopefully since you purchased the tractor from them they will be willing to provide part and install guidance. Maybe then shop online for the parts if they are cheaper to obtain outside the dealer.

I know that utilizing the dealer sounds like the best option, however, that is another story. Unfortunately, dealer support isn't what it used to be. That said, I will probably give them a call and see what they say.

That is dictated by your current loader set up. If you have the multicoupler (single point connection) you go that route if you have conventional couplers you go that route.

Gotcha, my loader isn't equipped with the single point connection so I would need the conventional coupler model.

Is this pretty straight forward to install or should I consider having the dealer do it?

Gosh sorry to hear that. My dealer is fantastic.

Well, I talked to the dealer. They are saying that the diverter kit doesnt have the hoses needed and arent sure where to hook into the tractor to get hydraulic flow. Right now theyre saying it will be around $1,600. Best I can tell the diverter kit retails for around $750 and the joystick $198. Im not getting a warm fuzzy.

I just finished a third SCV on my 5200. It wasn't easy, but the Deere instructions and parts were first rate. Everything fit.

You might ask the dealer about the kit for your tractor. It'll be less cost than buying individual parts.

valves
^^ they offer the diverter valve. It comes with a joystick replacement handle that has an elec switch that operates the 3rd function like on a grapple.
The electric over HYD valve mounts on the loader, the power beyond on the tractor powers the HYD to the valve. They offer the complete system with everything way cheaper than JD.
There are some others that have this aftermarket kit for the 3rd option. I believe artillian has one.

The custom WR Long kit we offer is much more reasonable than the JD kit, it's a true third function, and most people install them at home with no issues. We've sold tons of kits for JD 5075E tractors and everything needed is included.

Thanks for the response, and I may end up going that route. I really like the ergonomics of the JD joystick so my preference is to go that route if its reasonable. That said, I have yet to talk to a dealer that has provided consistent information regarding whats required, part numbers, pricing etc. They've been all over the place as far as 16 different part numbers (piecing it together) to JD doesn't make one. Its getting real frustrating almost to the point I wish I'd went orange.

At this point, I'm really leaning toward going aftermarket.

I wanted to provide an update and a couple questions on my 3rd function remote saga. I decided, for various reasons, that I liked the ergonomics, and the clean OEM look of the JD kit for the new 520M loader so I took the leap and ordered the BX10030 diverter valve kit and LVA13698 joystick. The diverter kit was $751 and the joystick was $198. I agreed to let my JD dealer do the install because 1) they already had the tractor at their shop switching out the loader which was delivered with the wrong carrier, and 2) there was some issues in which parts were required and I wasn't sure I knew enough about this to do it myself. I agreed to $435 for the labor to install.

The diverter kit was backordered and finally came in last week and I got the tractor back this morning. I immediately hooked up my grapple to give it a test. To my disappointment, I could not get it to operate. The joystick has three buttons which I assumed operated the same as my Kubota OEM 3rd function remote (on/off switch, open, and close). Eventually, I figured out that the only functionality this kit has is when you activate the on/off switch and then use the curl function on the joystick, the grapple opens/closes. The up/down buttons have no functionality whatsoever. I know this is a diverter kit which hooks into the curl circuit of the bucket, however, I assumed the joystick up/down buttons actually interupted/diverted flow and were used to open/close the grapple.

I called the dealer and spoke to the technician who installed and the service manager. The service manager told me thats all this kit does and to get functionality of the Up/Down buttons a much more expensive option has to be used. I guess my Kubota kit on my L3240 is not a diverter but a true third function and obviously, operates much differently.

Man that sure sucks! It doesn't sound right either.. Sometimes I wonder what planet these people come from selling you something that isn't really fully functional.. A lot of money too..

That is unfortunate. Dealers sometimes/frequently either do not know or do not use proper terminology. We do this attachments stuff all day, every day and people are often amazed by how easy and efficient we make the transactions.
For clarification, the custom kit we offer, which I showed in my last post, is a true 3rd function kit as your L3240 had.

You bought a diverter kit. The joystick is equipped to operate a true third function kit or diverter kit.

Many, many operators here on TBN use diverter kits and swear by them. I prefer true 3rd function.

I believe I have to take the blame here for not thoroughly understanding the functionality of what I purchased. After re-reading through Travis' response above, I realized the difference in the functionality of a diverter valve vs. a true 3rd function, and he was spot on. I should have been more attentive and caught that before. That said, I'm sure (at least the salesman, parts person, and service writer) that I dealt with at the dealership had no idea of how either worked.

I normally am very thorough about understanding these type things, but this time I missed this. I actually thought my Kubota set up was a diverter valve, however, obviously its plumbed separately.

I do like the OEM look and I'm sure I will adjust to how this works for my uses.

I do appreciate places of business who know the details about what they're selling. Kudos to Travis and EA. I still plan at some point to order a grapple from them.

True 3rd function requires minimum of 3 switched functions.

Diverter setup only requires two.

It's very common in communication to confuse these two. There have been many lengthy heated debates concerning the value and function of each. I've watched some very knowledgeable guys spread some very inaccurate information.

I don't consider the diverter system 3rd function. After all, it can only perform two functions at once.

Can someone explain the difference between the two. Like which is needed for grapple vs top and tilt and why? Maybe help others since almost everyone wants to pimp out the tractor.
