Hello all ;

New to this forum stuff so I'll just get it out there. Picked up a betstco flail mower price was right so I thought. Anyway have had issues with it tilling on soft ground, like rear roller is plowing. Roller is free and no binding, front of mower is 2 degrees nose up. My thought is that the rear roller is to small it has a 4 inch diameter where most companies are running 5.25 to 6 inch diameter rear rollers the mower is 72 inches wide and weight is around 580 pounds. Has anyone had this kind of issue. Am I on the right path. Any help would be appreciated. making a new rear roller is possible just looking for input.

THANKS

adjust the front up until you're sure the cutters are off the ground at least an inch or 2.

and welcome to the forum.

The cutters are off the ground by 3 inches at least until I hit sandy soil then it plows.

DO NOT pay any atttention to the rear roller diameter;

If the tires on the mule are at the required air pressure:

1. Lower the rear roller one position.

2. level the flail mower with the top link using a torpedo level by using the gearbox cover if it is flat as a reference point

3. mow

I assume that you bought their EFGC model flail mower which is 4" diameter roller. Actually it is made by 108 mm diameter steel pipe. Watch out those small bolts on the roller end, it is easy to fall out.

I suggest you:
1. Lift up the skid. Flail mower should be supported by its roller when mowing, only if you don't mind the skids make two deep track on the ground.
2. Adjust roller's position, it has nearly 2 inches height adjustment capacity.
3. Adjust your tractor's 3 point hitch upper link length, make the mower is parallel with the ground, and the hammer could cut the grass but not the ground.

72" width and 580lbs i'm guessing he bought the light duty flail. i just purchased their 'heavy duty' model at 48" wide its supposed to weigh in at 600lbs.

the 2 lighter models have really light flails too, not sure how much that will affect things but i went with the model i did because the flails are 27oz and the price differance really isn't much. fwiw

my mower is scheduled to show up tomorrow. i really hope its everything i want it to be... we'll see

Hey Jack, I haven't seen a post from you in a long time. I hope everything is going good.

Good to hear. I think our presidents are both playing high stakes poker. I hope things even out. Give and take. Ying and Yang.

They are big boss, those are something we cannot change. I don't have ambition to make world peace. I only can work hard and protect my family.

I have the same basic flail fromTitan. You値l likely need to adjust the roller and skids to the highest adjustments. They are adjusted by reoving the bolts on the parts and going to a higher hole. I run mine all the way up and it cuts about 3 1/2 inches. Adjust your top link so the skids just touch or are just off the ground really helps also.

I know this is a very old thread, but what do you think about the 48" heavy duty Bestco flail?
That's the model I'm looking at getting fir my bx2380. Either the heavy duty or next step down.
Would you buy it again? Any thing else you can say about it?
What did you use to run it?
Thanks
