Looking at pull type snowblowers

Be prepared for sticker shock when you ask for a price for that unit buying it in the United States.

If you still have your Kawasaki mule with the winch you can mount a motorized Bercomac 2 stage snow blower from Jims Repair on it for much less money than that Pronovost inverted 2 stage snow thrower but more money than a Riest Series 1000 with a 6 foot cut and hydraulic chute rotation and hydraulic spout control. The only way you will save a lot of money with the purchase of a Pronovost 72-IV inverted snow thrower is if you purchase it in Ontario and you bring it across the border.

A front mount blower with the 3 point power pack is expensive - $10-15K. Not worth it to me. Our worst lake effect snows might be 24" over a couple days, but most of the time it's around 6" or so. Plus is southern Michigan we usually get warm, melting weather in between storms. It would be different if I was in the UP. I plowed for several years with a Kawasaki Mule and did just fine. I've never owned a blower and would like to try one I think. My local Kubota dealer can get the Meteor for $3,995. There are also dealers in the area that sell Pronovost and Erskine pull types. Any idea which is the better unit?

The 27" is a large factor.

The fan is what does all the work. The rest is mostly fluff .... Bigger/deeper/more fan blades usually does more work than smaller/shallower/less blades... The blades are the shovels, more and bigger shovels is a good thing...

In selecting a blower driven off the rear pto, most buyers overlook the end result of pto joint angles. This is why fan diameter is very important as 1/2 the diameter is what you would like to have match the height of your pto shaft so that joint angles, when working, are as close to zero degrees as possible.

This chart shows how quickly pto joint life can be reduced.

20 hours with 25 degrees and 450 hours with 5 degrees.
