Oh It was! Sliced it and threw it on a toasted bun. Usually I make it with a sausage instead of hamburger but I'm trying to watch my health and eating habits. Lol

I have a Green Mountain Grill. Ribs, steaks, burgers, chicken, and whatever we can think of.

On my ribs I always to a dry rub, smoke them at just under 200 for 6-8 hours, and spritz them will apple juice once an hour. Moist and tender with a nice bark.

We've been really happy with our smaller GMG. Had it well over a year now and it's held up really well.

Wifi is a nice feature too if you want to keep an eye on it but not have to be up close to the grill.

Well, we've had our Traeger for 3 years now. Would I buy another? Maybe. Would I buy another pellet smoker? Absolutely. As others have said, it lets you do some really tasty BBQ pork, Ribs, Beef Brisket, and Turkey w/o being an expert. We do a lot of the 3-2-1 ribs (even though I can't follow directions exactly) and pork shoulder/butt for pulled pork. We also own a food (quick service restaurant) business, and our product cooks very well on pellet grills for those willing to try it.

In fact, one of our more frequent customers came in the other day, asking if I heard of Traeger, he just got one.... Told him, welcome to happiness :)

The key (to me anyway) is the digital controller and it's auger control. As long as that's reliable and accurate, any brand can give you good results, everything else aside. And the BBQ community is nothing but welcoming in our experience. Experiment, have fun.

Is there a brand you would get instead of Traeger?

I have had my traeger for 10 years. I can't say I've ever had a bad meal on it. I've done almost every recipe in their book and a bunch of others. From a brisket I did that took about 11 1/2 hours, to a 20 minute Papa Murphy's take and bake pizza, you really can't go wrong. I've had gas, charcoal grills in the past. They really can't compare. To make the Traegering i.e. grilling easy and foolproof get yourself a digital remote thermometer and receiver.
I have a buddy with a green mountain and it's very nice too. You really can't go wrong.

The yoder sears steaks. Sears them nicely. I smoke steak in upper rack at 180 until meat interior reaches 95 f, then install sear plates and crank up smoker to 500 . In a few minutes i place steaks on grate and cook for 2 min, rotate 90 degrees and cook for2 minutes. Flip and cook for 2 min, rotate 90 deg and cook till internal temp is 150. This usually happens in 2-3 minutes. Steaks are seared nicely and have amazing flavor and smell. I use mesquite pellets for steaks. I have the heat diffuser plate and the 4 smokeing rack removed entire time
I致e looked the Yoder over and it looks to be a few notches above the Traeger. Appears to be quite a bit sturdier based on weight. Plenty of capability also.

Yoders are nice and heavy duty, and you do pay for that. We used to sell Traeger grills until they switch their production to China, ended up switching over to Smokin Brothers grill line they cost more than the Traeger but are made much better, and they are made in the US which is important to me at least. Pellet grills are so nice because you load the pellets, fire the grill up, load the food and walk away, we have one at home and one up at our cabin and it's nice to be able to load the grill up and either go to work or if I'm at the cabin go out on the boat or go four wheeling what ever it all good not having to worry about loading more wood or charcoal. I used to compete in BBQ and still have a commercial style pit that unless I need the room I rarely use it any more. Makes me hungry too just thinking about it! :)

I admit my ignorance up front. I am a BGE fan, but they do have their limitations. My question is this: is there a way to add certain wood smoke to the pellet grill? I use Mesquite, Blackjack Oak and either Hickory or Pecan for the smoke. Do I have to give this up if I buy a pellet smoker?

There are pellets made in a wide variety of woods, although the flavor does not come thru as strong as in a BGE. Below are a couple links that might offer assistance:

2Lane - I just got my BGE for Christmas. Love it! Tonight's chicken leg quarters will be 3 nights in a row that supper has been made on the Egg.

If you are looking at a pellet grill for "set it and forget it" convenience, have you looked at the "CyberQ"? Our mutual buddy, KennyD, turned me on to it. I use it for any cook that's going to take longer than an hour or two. Used it yesterday for the ribs - just sat the temp for 275 and left it alone. I was able to monitor the temps from my home office while I was working. I only opened the egg to mop the ribs. It's super nice for doing longer cooks like brisket or a pork butt.

As an aside, many years ago I looked at a Traeger but couldn't really afford it at the time. But I did buy a bag of Traeger pellets that I would put in the "smoker tray" on my gas grill to add flavor. They actually worked pretty good for that purpose. For kicks a few weeks ago when I did a pork butt, I poured a couple cups full of those pellets into the charcoal in the Egg. Gave it a lot of smoke. Unfortunately my palette is not sophisticated enough to differentiate between the smoke flavors of various woods. LOL!
