Finally got started on this project yesterday. Upper part will be t&g yp. Lower part will be galvanized 5v. Electricians are replacing lights with cans. Removing ceiling fans over stalls. Installing fans mounted to stall walls.

Sure looks a lot better. Wish I had the bucks for a barn like that.

Closed cell foam will keep out moisture. That's why it's used for floating boat docks. Open cell foam absorbs it. Open cell is cheaper and easier to install. It has a lower R rating then the same thickness of closed cell.

Yep, as Eddie says, I have closed cell docks that are well into 20 years old.

While some used the open cell foam it absorbs to about 80% over time and is impossible to carry away due to the weight.
It also disintegrates over time causing pollution issues.

I usually created 'skirts' around my dock floats to prevent abrasion, also we never take them out as even the ice does not damage them over winter.
(we will get as much as 8-10" of ice here.)

It's an 18" diameter fan. They'll have more air flow than the ceiling fans. Look nicer also. I'll get a picture tomorrow. Plus they're lower so easier to clean.

What is the advantage to fans mounted to the stall walls?

They move the moist humid air out so that condensation won't occur.

I once did a large barn and used a humidistat to control the fans and that resulted in nice fresh air without costly heat recovery.

After all U want ro rid moisture and not heat. Their other barn was wired to heat control.

My barn cost 1/2 the cost to heat vs the other for same size barn and the air was 'sweater' they claimed.
Was simple, I substituted thermostats for humidistats.

Thanks. I have two stalls and right now we have box fans tied to the railing with zip ties. One stall has roosting turkeys in it, the other is where our horses crowd together. They like to get as tight to each other as possible, and stare at the corner of two walls. I've been thinking about putting in a ceiling fan. I have power there, just haven't decided on what fan to get. A wall fan would work too. I'm looking forward to your pics.

When I set up a barn that I had at a past operation I had designed with 12x12 stalls on opposite sides of a 16 foot wide aisle. I put 56 inch fans maybe four or five feet in from the front stall walls and over the full height dividing stall walls. My thought was to cover two stalls with one fan but to also allow for some area to have less air flow. The barn was built with no trusses. Rather, there were collar ties over the central aisle and rafters over the stalls so the fans had no restrictions to their flow pattern.

My idea worked very well but if was to do it over, I would have had cages over the fan blades. Bats used to hit the blades and end up dead on the stall floors. And yes, being about 12 feet up, the fans took some work to clean.

Thats a nice fan. I might want to use something like that on my porch for my wife and I to relax uneder. I've found that regular ceiling fans don't push any air out on the porch.

I guess it's too late to suggest this but what was the warranty from the manufacturer of the insulation you used? Is it possible they would provide some financial assistance on the project?

It's been 14 years so I doubt it. Her father came out and asked if I knew the stuff was going to fall apart when I installed it. I was up on the scissor lift. I looked down and said "That's a dumbass question!". If I had known that I wouldn't have used it. I think he was trying to be funny.Insulation I use now is better.

I built the wife a gazebo and put 2 ceiling fans in it. When it gets hit they are just about useless.

Anyone know where to get rusted metal roofing?

Probably to late but the product is called Corten. Several other companies make a similar product.

To give it near instant age just hit it with salt water and leave it overnight. Rinse the next morning and install.
