It's as it is named - Breakaway Clamp - meaning that it's meant to facilitate popping the hoses under severe strain. They're supposed to cause the couplers to detach before one breaks hoses (many here can probably raise their hands as to having broken hoses by forgetting to disconnect them when going to drop off an attachment). I'm considering one of these for this benefit, as well as because I am not liking the spring hose saver that I now have (it's not a breakaway): doesn't hold the mass of coupler bits very well; not stable for connecting/disconnecting.

Does anyone know if these breakaway clamps can take flat-faced connectors, and, do they work for mixed gender connectors (within the clamp, one side male, other female)?

The ones I have seen were all for female ag connectors. The way they work is that when the hoses are pulled the collar on the female side gets slid back which releases the male side. Flat face work the same way they're just larger. Some flat face are set up so you have to rotate the collar to a certain position before it will unlock. That wouldn't work well with the quick release concept 'cause they're easy to rotate out of position.

I'll go out on a limb(log, actually) and say that do not think those cheap grapples would survive this.
On another limb, I bet the box blade was free with the tractor, otherwise it would be an EA. :laughing:


The tractor is a Kubota L4600 with a 66" Single Lid Wicked Grapple.
This is his second 66" Single Lid Wicked Grapple, so I think he's confident in his initial buying decision. He let the first one go when he sold his L3800.

It doesn't take too long with this EA Wicked Grapple Bucket and you can pick your nose, scratch your balls, wipe your ***, floss your teeth with it (OK, maybe not in that order, my bad ;+)...

There are two grapple threads going here... I am posting on BOTH but don't want to be a problem... Just like to communicate with those who communicate with me... If there is an issue PLEASE LMK... I don't know if 'you-all' are also subscribing to 'other' grapple threads and I want to be sure not to leave anyone out (assuming you are interested), especially since I said I would post pics...

OK... Here are a few pics from today... Dropped the EA Box-Blade, installed the EA 3-point-receiver with my pintle-hitch and hooked-up to the Vermeer BC 900 for a day of chipping... I burn some brush and chip some for botanical-bedding/potting-soil/ground-cover...

Also, I isolate/save all 'red cedar' and chip it separately... It provides excellent insect-control and is an enjoyable fragrance around the farmhouse... I meant to take pics of this operation but basically I pull the chipper to the 'cedar pile' and chip into an enclosed trailer to be saved/sold/spread strategically...

The combination of tractor/hydraulic-do-dads/3-point accoutrements/grapple-bucket/chipper make this rig an awesome apparatus... We get it done with a little fun/finesse... Thanks for all the forum help...

I posted some pics on 'the other' grapple thread yesterday...

Today I took down a BIG 'Christmas tree' in a unique way for some but MY usual style... Leaving the entire tree standing, I dig/dredge/dig/cut roots/dig/dredge/cut roots around the tree in a fashion that helps me (utilizing the weight of the tree/top) to drop it strategically... Sometimes I climb the tree and trim the limbs on one side and cut the roots on the opposite... However I almost always put a stout rope on it and pull in the direction wanted for safety... The weight of the tree helps to pull the entire stump out of the ground... You can also lay a short log under/for the tree-trunk to fall on and thus lever the stump/roots further out of the ground... Fill the hole/cut the radial roots off evenly and you can roll the stump away easily... (NOTE: I routinely completely remove 3'+ diameter live oaks/large pines/sycamores/cedars/etc., including the entire stump, in 4 hours)... Then I trim the trunk/log, chip the brush, fill the hole, remove/grapple the stump to the burn-pile... See attached pics...

I also included a pic of my SS safety pins FYI... I think they are better/more effective/longer-lasting and definitely less expensive than cotter pins... I have my own jig...

PROGRESS REPORT... North Line Bed... 66" EA Grapple-Bucket...

These are not really 'action shots' because I am uncomfortable getting on/off the tractor to 'stage' pics ESPECIALLY with some of these VERY LONG/HEAVY logs but I think YOU get the gist... Also, productivity is a consideration since the law of diminishing returns is kicking-in... As promised I have made some progress/pics on this hurricane IRMA damaged area of LARGE pines now called the 'North Line Bed'... The combo-tractor/grapple-activity/experience allows me to make this report (MUCH more to come)... There have been several LARGE/LONG logs moved/placed with the EA wicked grapple in order to provide some retaining for all the wood/brush-chips (they rot VERY fast in this semi-tropical environ of Central Florida)... BE VERY CAREFUL PICKING/MOVING LARGE/LONG LOGS!!! THEY CAN/WILL RACK YOUR LOADER/TOPPLE YOUR TRACTOR AND THE GRAPPLE BUCKET MAKES IT EXPONENTIALLY EASIER FOR THIS TO OCCUR... AGAIN, WATCH OUT...!!! I realize the chips are 'attractive' to certain 'critters' but at least it is in a concentrated area and I can also effectively 'treat' them in a concentrated way... I run the 'clean' brush through the chipper, burn the 'dirty' and mix the two for a soil amendment-balance... Anyway, I also want to report/update for those who have been curious-asking/following/providing help-input, that my KUBOTA L4701 DT seems to perform well with the EA 66" Wicked Grapple... It was a tough decision, what size (60/66/72) and configuration (single/dual-lids)... I chose the 66" not just as a 'middle-of-the-road' compromise but for the added strength on the sides (due to the 3.5" vs 7.5" tine spacing) while trying to keep the width close to my wheel-base... As far as the weight is concerned, the EA 66" dual-lid grapple-bucket is the max I would put/recommend on this tractor/loader and still have plenty of 'lee-way'... That said, YOU would also do just fine with the 60" Wicked Grapple, but again, I am happy with this one for the added leverage/strength... As for the dual vs single-lid, I am VERY happy/satisfied with the dual-lid because, I do a LOT of far-reaching/corner-grabbing/strategic-edge-picking/maneuvering and very often handle unbalanced/uneven loads, thus I feel the dual-lid lends me an advantage... ... So far, so good... Stay tuned...
