I had cleared an area, intending to build a small shed for some yard equipment, but ran out of time before getting serious (winter is coming...). The Shelter Logic 20x12 round top "Garage in a box" is a quick fix so I can get the offending items out of the tractor storage shed so I can bring the 3038e back from the acreage before snow gets to be an issue. We picked it up up as a 25% off Black Friday item at the local Tractor Supply.

This is the area I had cleared, in the pic I'm using the 1025R to move in some fill to address the slope. I built it up with the material I could source on site, then later got a load of gravel to finish with area prep.

This is where some of the fill came from, a berm by an old logging road bed that I wanted cut down for a path to a corner pin anyway.

After using the readily available material, I ordered 7 tons of crusher run to finish the prep work. It got delivered just hours before a brief snow event, I spread a bit right after delivery to reduce the amount of mud I'd have when I distributed the rest later.

The Shelter Logic box weighed about 192 lb., most of that weight was the metal frame components. They recommend having 2-3 people do the build, but I found you can pretty much handle it solo, but help is a good thing. I off loaded it from the truck with the 1025R bucket & set it on the car hauler to do inventory & separate out the various parts.

I did some partial assembly of the arches there at the trailer, then moved them out to the site to finish turning them into the 6 12x8 ribs that make up the bulk of the structure.

Getting the first couple tipped up & connected with the longitudinal stringers was a bit of a pain - would have been easier with a helper.

shelter-site-26.jpg

Then it was just a matter of tipping up the rest, one at a time & attaching the stringers.

With the structure up & double checked for square I had to twist in 6 30" long augers as anchors. The end panels were the next step. A strap inside a perimeter pocket gets cranked tight with strap ratchets to pinch the panel around the end arch.

Once both end panels were in place, the cover could be pulled into place. Sorry no pics of the process, the wife came out to lend a hand & wouldn't have appreciated my stopping to do pics.
The ends of the cover have the same kind of strap/perimeter pocket arrangement that allows you to cinch the ends over the outside arches. You can see the ratchets at the bottom corners.

Not shown, but the final main steps were to clamp tubes running through pockets along the cover near the bottom edge to the vertical rib tubes. The clamps are similar to what you see used with chain link fence installations. With the bottom stringers finished, steel cables were used to tie the structure to the anchor augers.

The end panels have a tube inserted in a pocket across the bottom & a couple of grommets that are used to make it possible to "roll up" the unzipped doors like a window blind. A couple of cleats were added inside to tie them off.

That pretty much finished the job. Now I just need to get things moved around.

I always wondered how those things went together and were erected. So, thanks for the nice pictures and instructions. How tall is that shelter ??

8' at the center, the doors go up about 6' when unzipped & rolled up

I have a larger version of that building and the fabric split down the middle after a few years. Install metal length wise and it makes the structure much stiffer and never had a issue.

I actually mentioned doing that, talking to the wife today, as an option if/when the fabric deteriorates. We actually have a fair amount of long roof panels (dark brown) left over from a roofing job on the rental. It would only take a few more panels to have enough to do the job.

Yeah, I know. Our small 10x10 has lasted a very long time but, the big one didn't. It almost looked like a flaw in the fabric. One chunk of it is now covering a pile of firewood...ha!

I have had my first one up for 5 years. The second one (both have 'alpine' roofs) went up this past fall.
You will need to tighten the roof more, then snow will slide right off. You should slao anchor better than the SL screw in anchors you have. I anchored the first one to 4x4 posts driven into the ground 4'. The second one is anchored to a platform 12x20 2x8s cross ways on top of 4x4s run longitudinally.

I too saw the OP's building had loose fabric. Sometimes you have to go out with a broom and shake the fabric from the inside of the building so the snow slides off.

Any concern trapping moisture from the ground below? I would have put down a vapor barrier of some sort under the gravel.

I used wood chips as floor covering in my buildings and like it. It stays dry so it lasts a long time.

Here's the sequence of my newbie installation. ... bought direct from company .... their "Top Of The Line" product .... had good customer support .... am satisfied so far .... has endured multiple summer storms with up to 70 mph winds .... interior sweat has occurred a couple times .... I'm in/out of it almost daily with several pieces of equipment stored therein.

P.S. .... did the installation by myself with help only pulling the top cover over.

Interesting. I've never built one and I've only seen pictures of them. It looks like a quick and easy way to get stuff out of the weather!!!

ruffdog, can you post a picture of the outside, nice idea, does the snow stay on the ribs of the siding?

I have the older peak roof design one... the peak isn't enough slope to shed snow... what I ended up doing was getting a frame from a 2nd unit and doubling up on the trusses, which cut the spans in half. I try to get the snow off every 2-3 weeks but its located at an out of town property im guessing its been up for 8 or 9 years now but the fabric is ripe as **** now... new one come summer I guess the trusses will be in 3rd spans now with the new set as well as the old :p

Did the exact same thing, the trusses are now 2 feet apart as opposed to 4. May just do what ruffdog did and put siding. Mine is 24 feet long.

Put one up a couple weeks ago, 12x20, took 3.5 hrs by myself. Great shelter till I can get my shop built!

I've thought about one of those; my third garage spot (the only one long enough to handle the 20' of tractor and backhoe) became a shop, so I can't put the tractor inside. Too many zoning restrictions in my area, it turns out. You cannot even have a metal shed (nor a plastic one, but I snuck one down on the hill beside my house, hidden from view, for the lawn tractor, tiller, etc.)
If I store materials that I use for my business, I can have any type of building ... just need to figure out a finesse for the township zoning board. Putting a tarp on and off gets old quickly.
