Picked up the steel - six 12' sticks of 1 x 1 square tube for the cab, and and a 12' and an 8' piece of 4 x 4 x 3/8 angle - and brought it home and got it unloaded. Well, except for the 12' piece of the angle, which was pretty heavy for me alone to wrestle out of the van and into the shop. Mike and Scott may drop by on Friday and give me a hand with it. Mostly likely only 8' of the angle will get used for the rake.

I already had another 12' piece of 1 x 1 here at the house ... but I'm probably still short a full stick or two.

After that I ran up to McMaster and picked up the DOM tube for the rake pivot.

Shop was 50F when I got up there this morning so I started a fire and warmed it up to around 65F and then banked it before I left for McMaster. It's currently 29F outside and if we don't get much wind overnight it ought to still be fairly warm in the shop come morning. Need to do some work on sealing up the air leaks in the overhead door and it will be a lot better I'm sure.

The inspiration for the design on the cab is from TBN member "roygage" ... I like his styling and execution on the one he built for his L3000DT ... sorta fits with the boxy shape of this era of tractor:

He did a great write-up on the construction which can be read here:

Life on Highway 9: Building a tractor cab.

Good morning, all!

19 going to a high of 34 with 'periods of snow mixed with freezing rain'. YUK! I hate freezing rain, but it is a good indicator that winter is upon us.
Wind SSE 9 mph.

The new pup and the two youngest cats are playing together, somewhat.

The new emergency shutoff for the Kioti came yesterday....$175.oo all in. Can't beat that price.
I went to the manufacturers' website (they are located in Edmonton, AB) Welcome to Envacon, home of AirStop and got a quote from them for the manual shutoff (this one is electric) and their price was $791.55 + tax + shipping.
I have to make a tool to reset the shutoff as the lever is too short and I am not strong enough to overcome the closing/reset spring by hand. That is no big deal.
I have two options for the activation switch. The first one is to go with a dimmer switch (which I have here brand new) or the other is a starter button. The solenoid only requires a short burst of electricity to get it to activate (pull the plunger back) on the solenoid to release the blade of the shutdown valve into the closed position. This is a guillotine type shutdown valve.

I am having my morning coffee out of my new coffee mug. It holds 1 pint of liquid at a fillup. Just my size. One of the guys I work with picked it up for me on my 71st birthday (which I celebrated 1,000 miles away from home as usual). It has the universal symbol for no + a picture of a clock + a picture of a bull + plus a pile of what comes from under the bulls' tail. This is also printed on both sides of the cup. Block script about 1/2" high for those of us that can read English and the universal signs for those of us that can't.

I didn't go for a cruise yesterday, so it will wait for another day.

A short trip to town this afternoon including the parts store, is in the cards.

Happy turkey day for those that celebrate it.
Have a good day, all.

21 right now...high in the low to mid 30's.

We're all set for Thanksgiving...not traditional and nothing fancy: Cold cuts, veggies and dip...and some wine.

Happy Thanksgiving. 26 going to 48.

I've been out hunting with my oldest son last couple of days, and getting ready for the other two sons to come home...one just arrived from New York about 45 minutes ago...left late to avoid the worst traffic.

Lots happening here. I'm using my 1.75 readers to catch up...no problem walking with them... have actually gone looking for them in order to read a book, only to realize they were perched down on my nose while walking.

L4N, hope you had a great birthday, and sounds like a nice mug...works at sending a message while it works to keep your coffee hot.

Ed, congrats to you and your wife on your anniversary.

Randy, great memories for you from those pix...I was trying to tell what kind of car in that one pic...Cougar?

RNG, glad you got your spokes done, and seem to be making progress on your Subaru.

David, we'll be ready for a You-tube of you playing that uke

sun is coming up with beautiful views on a cold clear morning, 27 in Markham VA. 37 at home in NC.
So clear out can see to the horizon where the tiny bump of Sugar Loaf Mountain all the way up in Maryland can be seen. Something like sixty miles away; wasn't sure one could see that far with plain eyes. I think we are about 1100 feet up here, enough for nice views in one direction.
Right above my brother's home is the Appalachian Walking Trail.

Local story of problems with shooting wild turkeys for Thanksgiving. Apparently due to the invasion of stink bugs, the turkeys are eating the stink bugs, and apparently taste pretty bad when cooked.

I just have visions of David strumming his ukulele and wiggling around in his grass skirt. Not sure YouTube could handle it...;)

Wow, RS is at it again. Another Eiffel Tower. Building one's own tractor cab, takes a lot of skill. I just want to know who that handsome guy is in the picture.

May you all have a nice Thanksgiving, those who celebrate this occasion. I guess every country has their own Thanksgiving of some sort.

Am starting to feel bad for Roy going turkeyless. Woke up this morning to smell of onions frying in the kitchen; I knew my brother's wife was up and getting things going. Turkey brined all night, cooking slowly for mid afternoon meal.

29 degrees going for a high of 67 according to the NWS. My wife has had COPD for several years, been using some inhalers and such, but it was obvious that it was gradually getting worse, so day before yesterday (Tuesday) I took her to her pulmonary specialist. At rest there in the office, her blood oxygen was 92, so he was just going to change her medication a bit. But he decided to have a lung capacity test (I think that's what they call it) as she had done a few years ago. This time it came out to 35%. So then he had a nurse that was going to take her for a brisk 6 minute walk. That didn't even last 2 minutes before her blood oxygen was down to 82. So they promptly sent her home and had oxygen equipment delivered within a couple of hours. The big machine has a 25' hose so she can move around in our little house pretty good even when using it. And she also got some 6 cu. ft. oxygen bottles with the regulator, hoses, carrying bag and straps, etc. So she'll get to try that out when we go to meet our kids for Thanksgiving dinner today.

She knows being hooked up to that oxygen made her feel a lot better yesterday but she still doesn't think she needs it all the time. And I suppose she's right.

That is a beautiful area of Virginia...the further away from Washington, the prettier the state is...

Stink bugs do...well, stink. When we lived in south-central PA, we had the same problem. And, as I'm sure you're aware...it's not just one or two...it's frequently hundreds around the house.

Don't feel bad for us going turkeyless. It's our choice. I'm not a total vegetarian, but I lost my taste for meat a couple decades ago (after the stroke). My wife never had a taste for turkey...so, we're doing what works best for us. No criticism of anyone else...enjoy the Holiday as you best see fit.

Got to get the turkey ready to bake soon. We use the roasting bag, should take 3 hrs.

That was a 1973 Buick Regal with every option you could dream up including a 455 Stage 1, 3.42 posi rear and turbo 400 transmission. An “old man” in his 50’s ordered it, drove it for a few months and bought a new SD-455 Trans Am.

Sorry Buppies, you should be better late today, I had it the days just before Lynn died. My blood glucose went from my normal 100 or so to 155 for a day. Hope you’re better soon and you can make it up to the wife.

Turkey went in at 5, my daughter got it ready last night and I somehow figured out the auto on feature on the oven, so when I went in the kitchen at 4:45 the oven was just getting up to temperature. Of course I had spill stuff and clean it up, I know my wife is somewhere saying just move and let me do it! LOL

Calling that man old doesn't seem right now, funny how old men like fast cars
