I was using a phd on my Branson 3520h, and I hit a big rock and saw part of a bolt fly away; if I recall, the phd stopped spinning.

Strange thing is, it wasn't the bolt holding the auger on; the snapped bolt is much smaller (like a 3/8" head, with a washer), and when I went to swap to my scraper blade, I could swear the phd was spinning when I engaged the pto on a lark.

What bolt did I snap? I don't see any missing anywhere.

Driveshaft shear bolt, may still have a piece in there catching enough to turn auger not in ground

That large bolt holding the auger on is probably a set screw with a rounded end that sits in a groove in the auger shaft. It keeps the auger from falling out, when the shear bolt shears but lets the pto spin without engaging the auger. Replace the shear bolt and you should be good to go. You will have lost the head and the other end of the shear bolt with the nut on it, but the main part of the shear bolt will still be in the auger shaft. Align the shear bolt holes and punch it out.

On the PTO shaft closest to the gear head. That's the one I shear all the time.

Thanks all, on closer inspection of the PTO shaft I did indeed find a missing bolt:

Thanks for the solved mystery, and I'm glad it's not something unexpected... and that I'll be able to replace it so I can use the PHD next time I want to!

Now... what's up with all the oil over the gear box??? :D :D :D ...or am I seeing it wrong?

Actually had a friend say... "It's a tractor, it's suppose to leak oil..."

It looks like a high-gloss paint job to me.

I think that's just gloss paint on any uneven surface.

Yep it's mostly clean, just a bit of dust.
Now the rest of the tractor on the other hand... let's just say I need to buy a pressure washer, stat.
