Engine stumble during acceleration

Have a 1996 B2400HSD with approx. 1100 hours on it. When I accelerate the engine from idle, it accelerates, then drops rpm, then accelerates to my throttle setting which is 2600 rpm for mowing. While under load mowing, the engine has full power. Checked the fuel tank cap vent and it was OK. Fuel filter has 100 hours on it. Will replace it, but can't see that as the cause since the engine has power under load. Would appreciate ideas on what to check next.

I would definitely first replace the fuel filter. They have been a bit finicky on my BX especially going up hills. I am on my third set at 400 hours.

Found the cause. Got a new fuel filter from the Kubota dealer and when I took the old one out, found that it had a covering of slime on it. Don't know how any fuel was getting to the engine. Fuel pump suction had collapsed the cylindrical filter into an hour glass shape. Didn't try to clean it, just put a new one in. If this one clogs up also, will have to see about flushing out the fuel tank.

Good news... not sure the size of the B series fuel filter but on the BX there are two and they are very small. I still plan to mod it with a larger bowl filter as some have done. There are a couple threads on the subject.
