I'm purchasing a piece of property w/ a FX24D 4x4 tractor w/ bucket. What can you tell me about this tractor? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I can tell you to make sure you use an over run clutch when using a rotary mower or any other flywheel type implement. The rear end ring and pinion gears history on that series has proven to have some problems. However, used correctly, I doubt you will ever see any problems.

Thanks Winston1, what do you mean by using an over run clutch? By flywheel type implement, I assume that's anything that runs off the PTO?

OVER RUNNING CLUTCH- QUICK DETACH: Yanmar Tractor Parts This allows the implement pto shaft to continue to spin even though the tractor pto has stopped.

Rotary mowers, sometimes called bush or brush hogs have a flywheel inertia that will push your tractor forward after you push the clutch in which can be dangerous. Some pto implements like a tiller does not have that flywheel inertial so it might not be necessary to use the over run clutch with it but certainly no harm in using one.

tractorErnie, one of the Yanmar guru's on this forum has always recommended the use of an over run clutch, especially on the power shift models. Not only is safety involved with the over run clutch but also the bang that can happen to your differential when shifting the power shift at high speeds when mowing. Not good with words but hope I have explained well enough to convince you to get an over run clutch.

Winston said the important stuff. Keep fuel and air filters in the tractor and keep it covered and water off of it as much as possible. Those tractors have lots of electronics on them and there are no English service manuals availible, and very limited knowledge state side about them. Parts availibilty also can be an issue on things other than common parts.
