YANMAR TILLER IDENTIFICATION

only thing I've figured out is that I haven't seen pictures of any others that have all of the extra brackets on the cross tube or ones that have mounts with rubber bushings supporting the center of the sheet metal top. That's what has been throwing me off. Thanks to all of the information I have been able to read through i knew it would be a 1400 series. The odd number of times had me scratching my head too.
If you need help in decoding the Parts Manual in PDF let me know.

You will need to open the chain drive housing. Often this area is neglected the most. The sprockets, bearings and chain need to be examined for too much play and mechanical damages.

All mechanical part are intact and rotate rather smoothly. I will begin tearing into it for a more in depth inspection, in the coming weeks. It's going to be my winter project to have done in time for spring. After all of the mechanicals are good to go, then the attaching point fabrication, followed by the esthetics.

Yeah. In the original application, a rice paddy, there was likely water in the gear case after the seals got worn.

I drained my RS1400 (gears not chain, cast iron gear case) when I bought it and got a half cup or so of water before oil came out. And I replaced the bearing over on the other end of the tine shaft because it was all crusty rust. Now, an ounce of water drains from the gear case if it hasn't been used for a couple of years. That cast iron gear case must cause condensation.

even gearboxes that run 24/7 will have small amounts of moisture, its worse in high humidity. I've watched fingerprints form on freshly machined engine blocks around here in the summer

My Org. YM2000 When I changed the Hyd. fluid the screen was in such bad shape from water I had to replace it. Looked as if it was repaired before. Bottom of the pan since I had the filter out 1" thick of Crisco looking Grease I scraped out. INKY! Super nasty.

I believe I have solved my quandary. It appears that I may actually have a Mitsubishi tiller that was marked as a yanmar. While trying to find what style tines are installed, this pic showed up on my screen and immediately noticed the brackets. Looks like I might need to pick the brains of the Mitsubishi experts.

I do appreciate all of the help and information. Most will be useful no matter what brand it may be.

Here are a few shots showing the common accessory mounting brackets.

Post 23 ;) looks as though the cover and possibly could be the same manufacturer. Mitsi. folks may help on that question? Detail of the Yanmar logo looks correct. And the Vert, leveling Handle.

Yanmar, Mitsubishi, Iseki and Kubota all rebrand the same tillers as their own in Japan.

So, the Yanmar RS1404 can actually be the same sibling model as the Mitsubishi R1423.
The Yanmar manual still applies. In fact, I have people with the other brands ask for the Yanmar manuals as I have them since they can not find their model sold under their brand.

Thus, nothing here is a waste of time, it's an ADVANTAGE.

The more I looked at both, the more I believe they are made by the same company (VST) in Japan.
