Shipping weights are going to include pallets and straps... Wood is enough of a variable it wouldn't be accurate. As you stated, close is only good enough for those with high loader capacities and if taking the time out to do it, do it right...
I'd have thought that pallets would be pretty standard plus or minus ten to fifteen pounds. Strapping couldn't be more than a few pounds too.

Just checked with Mr. Google who says a standard 48x40x6 pallet weighs between 33-48 lbs depending on type of wood and moisture.

Of course it's possible EA just doesn't routinely weigh palletized grapples for shipping.

I can get close and say they could be off 30 pounds or so now based on the updates we've made, but someone believes it's more.

Ty from Louisiana just sent in these pics of a New Holland T4.75 sporting a 73" Dual Lid Wicked Grapple and a 96" Severe Xtreme Box Blade.

He had this to say:
"Travis,
Both implements have been holding up great, thanks again for great service, price, and quality.
I'll try to get some action pictures with my little girls in them as they love "THE CLAW!" and helping me move trees, but this spotty rain is killing me."

Black would be fine and easier to repaint years down the road.. How long is the wait on one of these?

I missed your post yesterday, Rut!

Currently, we're running 6+ weeks behind.
Surprisingly, this Monday was one of our highest sales days of the year.
Customers have been willing to wait for the good stuff and we're sooo extremely grateful.

The WICKED Root & Debris GRAPPLE!!!!!!!

At the risk of being ostracized for posting about my 66" dual lid wicked compact grapple weight.
Of course this is an as shipped weight, including the pallet, strapping, wrapping, etc.

...I'm looking at the shipping label, and it says 500#.

.....The grapple I had before, was also a 66" dual lid. It was from an American company, and was of high quality. I only sold it, because someone offered me more than I paid for, for it.
It had a shipping weight of over 600#.

....And it did not look near as sexy as the Wicked Grapple. Hahahaha

Listed weight for current 66 dual is 410lbs. I wonder if they just guesstimate the shipping weight.

Or, as the 66 single is also listed at 410lbs, maybe just maybe the dual is actually something about 50-60 lbs heavier than listed.

.. yeah I don't know if the shipping weight is exact or estimated.
..Which is why I was hesitant to post it. BUT it is at least a 100# lighter than a competitor grapple. As the shipping weight on it was listed as 629# if I remember correctly. I know it was over 600.

I have no trouble thinking the EA is lighter than a competitor grapple. All those race car cutouts add up. I forget whether that series has 3/8" mild or lighter gauge high strength steel too but that would certainly make a difference too. The question remaining is what the relative weights are between single and dual lids.

I sadly had to cross some wetland to find a spot to dig a grave of a young cow.

That is another thing the grapple and backhoe come in handy for but very frustrating every time I have to do it. Usually older cows that have paid their dues, rare but sometimes young ones. A few calves every year.

TomSeller you can't lighten' the load a bit cutting that tenderloin out? Lol

I could but the Turkey Buzzards are on them before the last breath it seems. And I don't eat Buzzard's leftovers. :D

I had gotten a little complacent and let my girls get on the older side and was losing the senior ones. When you have cows that calve and handle easily sometimes you stay the course for too long. I did some culling and freshened up the cows so this year no dead cows... So far. Less of a need for the grapple.

The only thing worse than finding a dead cow
is vultures leading you to one down but still alive, making angel wings.
I talk to the cow, pet them, tell them what a good cow they have been.
Then I administer the coup de grace dreaded by every cattleman,
a monstrous act of mercy.

After some investigating, I've updated the dual lid Wicked Grapple chart on the page. I still have to get the full grapple chart adjusted, but hopefully this will help some people gain sleep at night(me )!

Findings:
54" and 60" dual lid grapples are 48 pounds heavier than their single lid siblings.
66" and 72" dual lid grapples are 42 pounds heavier than their single lid siblings.

The WICKED Root & Debris GRAPPLE!!!!!!!

That explains why I had such a good sleep last night!

Useful data to consider when pondering pros and cons of single vs dual lids. Given the weight is forward of the pivot pins, it looks like about 60-75lbs less net lift capacity. No biggie for big tractors but a consideration for CUTs with less than 2000lb lift capacity.

Now, if we only had that list of single lid owners who wished they'd bought the dual....(Travis, don't spend time looking for it!)

I guess increased sleep does produce more energy for TBN posting! Glad I could help.

Thanks for putting that to rest Travis. Less than nil. Case closed.

Amen. But what can we talk about now?

12 days in to my 6 week wait, fingers crossed that production moves along as anticipated and my Wicked Grapple and mower get here asap.

Can't wait to graduate to the "Grappling Fun" thread :)

That is actually about what I expected and a considerable amount if your lift is < 700 or 800lbs or so. EA prides itself on low weight as they should and every lb counts.

And don't think the case is closed now that the "lighter is better" side won the weight debate, we still have to grapple the one lid or two topic. If we can ever get around to debating that subject we will win it "2". :D

Lighter didn't win. Weight difference is nil. Saying that a few pounds makes any real world difference is pointless. Spend that internet arguing time learning to be a better operator will net you a significant real world difference. Case is closed. :)

Color options of course!!! After a few years of arguing solid colors that we can then go to two tone grapples. Do I get a black lower with the tractor color lids? Do I get both lids the same color or... you get the idea! :)
