PJ, I worked in QA for 30 years. It's kinda like the foreign legion, march or die, professionally.

Yeah, I'm in about 20 years now, and been all through the ranks. Even as a manager now, I still believe I can "make a difference." Sometimes I do, sometimes not so much. The company I'm with now seems to genuinely want to improve the way we do things. Believe me, I'm riding that wave as long as possible. Hopefully, by the time it stops, it'll be time for me to stop getting up at 5am every day, and start writing these Good Morning posts from my desk by the bedroom window.

I decided to splurge and order some Hawaii beans to use for my 400th coffee roast today...about twice the price of most other beans.

David, they came from the Ka'anapali farm on Maui. I sometimes name my coffee roasts or blends if there is some thing related. I named this 400th roast the Kekoa roast...it's not like getting a stadium or a bridge named after you, but it is the best I can do. I started up a Hawaiian music channel on Pandora to listen to while I roasted - some of the most soothing guitar playing I've ever heard...it was breezy in the 70s out on the screened porch, so even felt like being in Hawaii.

I've got close to 40 years in the field...went from inspector to manager and, for the most part, settled into the Quality Engineer role. Love the field, most of the time. One has to be realistic though...we're not always going to get what we want.
I've always been a job shop guy...like the way job shops do business. It might not be as much money as a bigger company, but job shops have always provided me a lot of job satisfaction.
And, of course, being in QA/QC, one must have a thick skin since we tend to be the customer's whipping boys when things get missed. After all these years, I have the skin of a rhinoceros

Perhaps some better skin lotion Roy? :D

thunderstorms rolling through, big boomers rattling house but higher winds not due in until tomorrow morning.
High wind alert for tomorrow, up to 40mph winds. I don't think I'll be putting my trash can out early this week.

She inherited the house and 5 of the 17 acres when her Grandmother died last year. We had planned for several years to make some serious repairs when that happened, and once we got a notion of what needed to be done, we decided a complete remodel was in order. Yeah, she's getting a lot of new stuff, but I got a new tractor last fall, looking to upgrade my old motorcycle (not a new Goldwing ... at $30K ... but a newer one than the '85 I have now), and will be converting one of the basement bedrooms into a new home recording studio when the walkout basement is remodeled in a couple of months. I'm not exactly on the outside looking in. ;)

The only things I ever really do wrong are a) not get dirty dishes into the dishwasher fast enough, and b) not get clean laundry put away fast enough. Other than that, she thinks I'm the cats meow ... and I'm not about to tell her any different.

Sounds all good. Your own studio too.

'85 Goldwing. Brings back memories. I got to ride on the first year model GL1000. It came "naked" and you typically bought a Vetter Windjammer fairing... I remember it was such a big deal back in 1975. We all went by the honda shop to hear it run. I got an RD400C yamaha that would run with it up to 100 mph. Then it would leave me in it's wake.

Need to practice welding aluminum. I guess it's all about the prep. Clean, clean, clean. Having trouble on the small pieces "running the oxides off"...Maybe I should yell "SHOO" under my helmet...I got sidetracked with a paying job, so I'll have to wait until next week to try again.

RNG, did you get a LoJack? I'm afraid that you'll catch them up to no good.

wngsprd, I worked with a guy who had a brother in law that managed a Hawaiian coffee farm. He bogarted all the freebie beans that were sent to him. I remember 15 years ago, just smelling the fresh ground Hawaiian coffee being sold for $49.95/lb at some coffee shop in the mall. The clerk quickly asked if he could help me, probably so that I might not sniff all the good smell up. I said no thank you. It DID smell good.

David S.- I hope your new internet works out. Can you just run a hard line over to the guest house?

I found that when we have the inevitable meeting to discuss ( assign blame ) the problem, it is better to listen. Everybody else will be defensive and upset.....

I never rode a full dress bike, I started with a Honda 125 test I rode to work, went to a CL 450, then to what I thought was the best looking motorcycle ever created up until 1982 when it came out, I bought a brand new V45 Magna, about 80 h.p. V 4, liquid cooled, 6 speed. Over the years I bought an 1100 Yamaha and a GS 1100 Suzuki, but I never liked anything better than tha V45 Honda.

All I had was a Suzuki 750. Drove it about 2 years in Houston and almost crashed or almost got run over about a dozen times before selling it.
