That's what helps "newbs" like me out. I get to see what works (and what doesn't).

I'm not sure I'd promote that video. Guy takes 10 minutes to do a 2 minute job. Maybe the second jaw slowed him down.

If you toughed it out to the video end, his wife finally comes out, probably to see when he intended to come in and help with housecleaning. Sadly, he finally ran out of tree.

If it was his first or 2nd time using a grapple, I think he did pretty good. From the looks of the tractor, it could've been his first or second time using it as well.
I do think it's a helpful video, although his technique could use some polishing. The neighbor was definitely projecting grapple envy vibes!

Please remember ....... IT was a grapple expert long before he got his first one. The rest of us has to learn by "on the job training".

I agree. It just isn't a good example of how efficient a grapple can be. Frankly, with the time he took he could have just chained those limbs to a standard bucket.

If it was labeled as a noobie doing his first grapple chore that would be just fine.

Not so. I paid my dues in the seat. I have owned one since 2005 though so I've been at it for a while. My avatar photo was taken on the first day I had my grapple on my old CK20. Loved that combo!

We all have to learn at our own pace. I can remember some very embarrassing attempts to use the FEL on my first tractor. "Why can't I get any dirt in the bucket? :hissyfit:

I used to station my wife out front to tell me when I had enough scooped up in the bucket to make it worthwhile to move. But hey I got better. A lot better. I ain't bragging, (well, maybe a little), but I can operate a FEL and move materiel just about as good as anyone. And while I have only had a grapple for about 3 years, I am pretty good with it too.

If that was the guys first or second time on the grapple, he did OK.

Great! We all learned by doing! But why do you have a need to denigrate someone learning to use his grapple with the ballz to do a video.

Post a video of your first time? I'm sure you were smooth, efficient, and took 2 minutes to do a 10 minute job?

I just hope that guy is not a fellow TBN member or you would owe him apology! I think you owe him one anyway.

I didn't "denigrate" someone trying to learn to use a grapple. I pointed out simply that watching a noobie (not identified as such) is NOT a good way to learn how to best use a grapple. EA has some good grapple videos done by Ted or Peanut (don't recall). Promote those, not some Youtube baloney where someone with a brand new grapple sets up his iphone and picks away at a brush pile. Exactly what do you think was useful about that video anyway? The fact that he picked up one branch at a time? The way he failed to balance the load? The video is of an inexperienced operator. Nothing wrong with being inexperienced but it is worthwhile to practice a bit before clogging up interweb bandwidth. And the guys video is certainly not as good as what EA has done in house with more experienced operators. Would you like to see a noobie diesel mechanic show you how to rebuild an engine on Youtube???
