After 5 hours of slipping and sliding around on the sloppy wet snot that we got yesterday and overnight I bit the bullet and bought a full set of chains. Front and rear. Duo Grip from Canadian Chains. $984.oo tax in and delivered. It will probably take about 2 weeks to get here from BC.

Congrats on your decision. I put chanins on a couple of weeks ago, just in time for a couple of new snowfalls. It was night and day difference having them on. The only thing I didn't like was installing them. LOL!

I just put the same tire chains on the rear of my Mahindra for the same reason. Now I am just waiting for a chance to try them out! The only test so far is a ride on frozen ground, a bit bumpy but so far so good!

This move will of course guarantee that you don't get any more snow this winter. ;)

I don't know about northern Ontario, but i haven't had enough snow for the last two seasons to even get the Bota out....since buying the chains.

After they are on I will NOT be taking them off. I don't go to town (paved road) in the summer with the tractor, so there is no need of taking them off.

I drove a cab over Freightliner for 8 years with a 20,000 lb steering axle. I am familiar with rough rides. If the ride is too rough, I can always install cross chains between the crossers that are already there. That will smooth it out some.

We haven't gotten our usual 4' yet, nor have we gotten either of the two big dumps we get every winter.

We get a minimum of 4' every winter and at least 2 weeks of -40 or so. I would rather have the snow than the -40 temps.

I have a tracking number for the chains and according to them the chains should be here on the 20th. I am guessing that they wont be in my hands until the Monday following the 20th. That is assuming the truck driver that brings them from B.C. can actually drive in the snow and doesn't lose it and my chains, too. I have very little faith in 'new Canadian' truck drivers.

Congrats on the new chains... I've been a fan of the additional traction they provide for years. Look forward to seeing yours.

Having a very tight budget to work with, as in basicly none, I've collected broken semi truck chains over the past few years. This past weekend, I took the time to combine them into a matched set for the rears of my 3005, and look forward to trying them out... front set would be nice, will have to borrow as set from my dually for that.

I've wondered about this. If the tractor is never on pavement, is it OK to run chains year-round? Is it especially hard on the chains to run them in dirt instead of snow? Do the chains eventually damage the tires if they are mounted all the time?
My aging R4's are OK on dry, firm ground, but don't do as well on wet grass or deep leaf litter in the woods, so I've contemplated using chains year-round, too.

No pic, but a 6 minute vid instead

With the chains on she is a little rough riding. But if I wanted a smooth ride I would hook it all up to my Rolls Royce.

Yep. Same as buying a new generator. Best way to make sure the power doesn't go out.

Well It's just over a month since I put my chains on and boy have I had a chance to try them in the snow! We got about 4 storms and about 40" of snow. Except for running out of space to put snow the chains work great! The difference between night and day, nice addition!

Yes they are! I have a lower lying area (about 2' lower) and without the chains I wouldn't think of crawling into it to put snow. With the chains I walked in there and now have a place to pile the excess snow. Some of my piles are 8' high. The roof of the tractor is 9' and i am just about there with some piles.
I had sheep foot skidder chains on my Farmall C and I could climb the piles with them. They were too big for the Farmall and wayyyyy too big for the Kioti.
