Just Bought My First Tractor - MX5800

FYI, I have ~800lbs 3pth concrete ballast, 1000lbs rimguard liquid in the R4 rear tires, 250lbs of cast iron rear wheel weights, and 200lbs of tubby middle-aged operator on my MX4800.

Only now am I unable to lift the rear of the tractor with the FEL. And only now do I lug the engine down before loosing traction (in 4wd) on a regular basis (and then wish I bought the mx5800! :drink:)

What are your thoughts on the rimguard? Like it? Was thinking about going with the sweet sticky beet juice myself

Congrats on the new MX5800 that's one sweet machine. Good to hear you shopped around and your JD experience was similar to my new holland and CASE experience. That's fantastic to hear a city slicker ventured off into the woods.

Sounds like the makings of one heck of a set up. Just remember don't get too comfortable around machinery, sometime you will ride them and sometimes they will take you for a ride.

And we all don't believe you till you post pics lol good luck waiting, that's always the worst part.

Thanks! To be honest I'm not even sleeping very well anymore . I find myself waking up at one and reading tractor forums and attachment specs until five or so. Now I'm sick with a cold, and I'd wager the lack of sleep has something to do with it, but I can't stop! I wish it would hurry up and get here so I can rest finally lol! Settled on a 66" standard duty blue diamond rock bucket w/grapple as my primary multi use attachment. I'm going to pick it up on tuesday and am really looking forward to getting a ton of work done in short order with it.

LMFAO! It's a disease and your infected with tractor fever. It will start with one, before you know it you have 3 nice ones and working on restoring 2 more wondering where all your barn space went. I'm not there yet. I haven't even made the first payment on mine yet and I'm already thinking about buying another.

Then there will come a time that you will find yourself finding things to do with your tractor just so you can take pics of it and post it to forums.

There you go, I wanted to remind you what a orange tractor looks like, small details, on the fact it's a garden tractor and not Kubota lol

Let your wife operate it! (surely she's not the "200lbs of tubby middle-aged operator")

Haha yes I've seen the videos! I wanted a wicked root grapple actually, but with the exchange rate and shipping factored in I couldn't bring myself to do it.

My dealer fills the tires with Rimgard on every tractor they sell unless you request they don't (no discount). I'm not sure I buy the marketing that it prevents all corrosion. It probably is better than CaCl but I would have also been happy with CaCl and tubes.

I would not want windshield wiper fluid/methanol. It's 6-7lbs/gal vs 10-11lbs/gal (almost 1/2 the weight). That's 500+ lbs of ballast I would loose.

:2cents:

How's the ride vs air? And is the tires filled at 75% or 40%?

Nope. Can't let the wife. Not enough ballast.

"Donuts and fried chicken for safeties sake!" :licking:
