Source for longer Control Lever rod?

I have a Prince Wolverine MB directional control valve that I want to have a longer Control Lever. OEM is 5.5" long and I'd prefer 10-12" (I know this will increase travel).

The threads are M8-1.25 (course). Any idea where I can find stiff rod only threaded at the end(s)? Needs to be at least 250mm long.

I can find entirely threaded rod but nothing else. I'm also a little concerned about using low carbon steel and having it bend (reasonable concern?)

Bolt and a coupling nut. Cut off the head of the bolt and then thread that end with a die.

Another option is to just get some rod with the correct OD and heat one end cherry red and beat it flat to the correct thickness.

Then drill it for the pins and thread the other end for the knob.

Exactly how much force you figger you're gonna be applying to actuate the valve ?

Should take all that much ... considering you'll leverage working in your favor ...
