Make sure each section of strap, where it is not in contact with anything, has at least a half spin in it. You don't want any straight straps. This breaks up the airflow and prevents the whipping that you often see on straps.

That's a trick I leaned from a young trucker friend. I've been using it ever since, and I don't have whipping straps and I don't have cut straps.
I will have to try that! I'm always **** about straps being flat and not twisted for no reason other than being ****. :confused2:

I used to be that way, until I learned the trick. No more buzzing in the breeze, now. Makes a HUGE difference in straps staying tight.

But only a half twist. Too many twists reduces strength. Some is good - more is not better.

Great ideas... I have used cardboard and plastic, but they both seem to come off, I like the molded corners with the bumps to stop the strap from coming off of them. Thanks! I'll wait to purchase until I get the box on the trailer, otherwise I won't remember where I put them.

If the cardboard comes off your strap was not tight enough. Cardboard will not wear through unless it is a very sharp knife edge. I have hauled lots of plastic injection molds and stamping dies with straps and have never had a piece of cardboard wear through.

Why? to be mean?

that's what's wrong with america.. not the guy hauling his bed the only way he can.. it's the next guy that wishes trouble on him. :(

Thanks for the politically correct reply! I apologize for the small dose of schadenfreude -- undoubtedly responsible for America's economic free fall. Can't we all just get along?

FWIW, I read it as humor.

Everytime I see a mattress like that I think of that insurance commercial and chuckle.

I was driving from El Dorado to Little Rock today and saw a two axle trailer with tall pile of pallets riding on rims on both wheels on one side of the trailer. Sparks were flying from the wheels but the guy kept going at about 50 mph totally oblivious to the fact. There was an exit to a gas station but he didn't stop.
