That's the nice thing about the protector sleeves, I linked to above, is that they slide onto the straps and can't come off. I have tried all of the plastic crap and sleeves are better IMHO. Put straps in place, semi tight, slide sleeves onto hard corners, finish tightening down straps. Boom!

Its political season, collect those plastic cardboard political signs after election day and use those. They should hold up better than cardboard.

Those are in good supply around here.

I won't use straps for securing a load when they cross an edge, I had a long block on a pallet secured with straps, by the time I got home, two of the straps were cut where they touched an edge. if the straps are tight (like they should be), there is usually enough movement to quickly "saw" through or at least weaken the strap.

Make sure each section of strap, where it is not in contact with anything, has at least a half spin in it. You don't want any straight straps. This breaks up the airflow and prevents the whipping that you often see on straps.

That's a trick I leaned from a young trucker friend. I've been using it ever since, and I don't have whipping straps and I don't have cut straps.

I continue to buy straps for some reason, like when we drove 280 miles to get our new mower and realized all the straps/chains/etc were in the truck and not the Tahoe we took. Tied it down best we could, drove very slow to the local NAPA store and bought a 4 pack of straps. NO edges were crossed, held up very nice, even had a panic stop and the 1154lb mower did not shift. I have a toolbox that I am going to mount on the trailer tongue that will have an assortment of straps and chains. Just have not done it yet..

that's why you use corner strap protectors.. you can buy them.. or make them fro a piece of carpet.. etc. not rocket science...

That is, until you remind them of the promises they made during the campaign. After that they just "fall to pieces."
