Might have been purpose built for a type of load that is rear weighted?
Or, its normally pulled behind something (like that dump truck) that can handle the tongue weight.
It looks like it may have 8k -12k axles under it with 17.5" wheels that can be rated at 6500# each.
I have seen such trailers behind dump trucks like that with a mini-ex and a skidsteer on board.

It was probably made to be pulled behind a much heavier truck like the one on it that can handle the tongue weight. It will pull better like it is VS having the axels farther forward.

At least it was a 3/4 ton Suburban...
Those trailers are heavy!

Bozo delivered a plastic tank to me on a backhoe trailer not quite as big as that one. Then he ignored me and got trapped where he couldn't turn around. No big deal, I'll turn it around with my little Yanmar. Ha. That trailer must have outweighed me 3:1. In some spots I had to anchor the tractor and use the backhoe curl as the pulling force to drag it uphill out of the mud. Even after I got his trailer back on the graveled driveway it was all I could do to tow it up the grade. Bozo swore the trailer brakes were fully released but I suspect he didn't know what he was talking about.
Here's a post where I described it.

So, not knowing everything there is to know about trailers, why are the axles so far back? Having them so far back increases the tongue weight, no?

As noted, this is probably a high capacity trailer - 10K to 14K, so it's expected to have a heavy tongue weight. However, keep in mind that dual axle trailers are deceiving - the tongue weight rotates around the front axle. If you load one centered over the two axles, it will be light in front. It took me a while to adjust to this when I got a dual axle trailer - it always seemed like I had to be too far forward to get a positive tongue weight. Also, when I pick up rock at the local supplier, if the "kid" is on the loader I always have to stop him because he dumps it right over the axles and it gets real exciting to tow.

Hard to see but he must have a special hitch on the Suburban. Trailer tongue looks to be almost a foot higher than the truck receiver.
My PJ 14K tilt bed has a heavy tongue weight of just under 1200 lb. and my axles are located similar to the one pictured. The entire trailer weight estimate is 4000 lb. according to the PJ specs.

10k to 14k? I would bet its closer to 16k or 24k.
The rims on it look to be 17.5" rims which are usually used to replace 16" duals on a trailer like this and can be rated for up to 6500# per tire.

Is that towing truck a red chevy? Or Dodge? HArd to tell from my angle..
The power unit is on the left side. Looks like an international semi.

The red truck is a Chevy, but the truck towing the concrete beam is the blue semi on the left side. I'm not sure why that picture even made it on this thread.
