Good morning!!!!

Good morning. Our weather should be cooling down again today, which will be nice as I prefer to sleep with the covers pulled up to my ears. Night time temperatures have been almost keeping up with the day's, so not much relief from opening windows. The bedroom sensor told me it was 81 degrees last night, by no means unbearable, but laying on the top of the bed just doesn't seem to give the same quality of sleep.

Happy welding Drew. Learning to weld with electricity is one of the most satisfying things I have done in recent years, I am sure you will have fun too. There is one question you may have a minute or two after you slip off your gloves, at the end of your first practise session. Even though I am only a novice, I can tell you the answer now - it is VERY.

"How hot can that metal still be ?"

66 high of 90 today no rain in forecast but some serious heat coming this weekend

Good Morning All. 67 here this am going to 89 with no chance of rain. Hope to take the load of brush to the dump today and maybe fix my closet where I started to low and don't have room for my shirt tails.

Eric :) It ain't hot it just don't take me long to look at a piece of metal. (Old blacksmith joke)

Drew I learned to weld with my dad in the house on the couch and me walking back and forth to the shop. He was sick and I was 11 years old. You can do it. :)

Have a great day Ed

Coffee is done brewing. 62° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 93° with sun and high humidity. Lawn is cut. While cleaning up my wiring project from day before. I found that 20amp electrical receptacles had been wired to 15 amp lighting circuits. Why I have no idea. The 20 amp circuit ran wire ran along side of the lighting circuit. All fixed with new wiring and receptacles. Today project is to put a 50 amp RV outlet box on back side of shop. This will allow me to put a RV behind shop and plug into power while working on it.
Drew, I like welding. Have 3 welders. But do not use them as much as I thought I would after retirement. Even then it's nice to have when a repair is needed.
Farmer, black wires would bother me also.
RS, what is squirrel protector made out of.
Good Morning All.

54F clear high 80's for high.
Warm weather arrives today for least 5 days :( got the lawn trim last evening plan on mowing this evening.

Lots of turkey chicks this year.

Enjoy the day all.

72 on the way up to 88 today, relatively cool day but as Buppies said, this weekend the kids will be running through the sprinklers for sure.
speaking of sprinklers....my older lady friend who I loaned a new Cub Cadet riding mower to emailed me saying the mower needed a service.
Well, that might be an understatement.
She did not take my caution about always walking unknown lawns first for IEDs. She goes next door to do her neighbors yard on a nice day and runs right over a brass sprinkler and the section of hose. At a minimum I've got blades to sharpen, hope the spindles weren't bent. So I'm headed over there today with truck and trailer this morning to bring "Bumblebee" back for service. Hopefully the hose won't be wrapped up underneath...sigh.
This is a lawn mower I know she dusts off after every use, takes very good care of, and she is surely more upset about this than I am. It was due for a blade sharpen anyway since her rear lawn, and her neighhbors, are sandy, next to the River, and the sand dust sucked up dulls things pretty quickly.
So I reassured her (with no facts to back it up...) that all would be fine. And it probably will be. Not an expensive mower so spindle can't be that expensive and not hard to replace. He said with cautious optimism...

Driveway was repaired and seal coated yesterday. They didn't apply, or simply could not apply, enough product the first time to seal the cracked edges properly.
They knew the edges were the issue from the beginning. I think they ran out of product, and for some unknown reason, they get it from Raleigh, over two hours away.
Sealmaster seal coat, hard to believe it's not available closer. ??But at 7:30am this morning they are returning with several more gallons and will reapply to all my partially filled cracked edges. I should be able to drive on the center today but will caution my workers with their big pickups to try not to spin their steering wheel while stopped on the pavement. That does wonders to new asphalt...
I need Buppies for an inspector!
I did not go with the basic stuff, paid a couple hundred bucks extra to get Sealmaster's higher grade coating with more additives. Looks just the same; driveway of course is much blacker now but that will fade. They say this should last three to five years. Maybe. Driveway was two years old and had concrete truck damage to about fifty feet of edges, and basic falling apart in other edges area. Driveway was beautifully done, except they blew it on the edges, they really did. So now I'm fixing them in places, they used concrete saws it looked like to cut whole areas out and patched those areas with another Sealmaster product. The problem is after one coat of seal coat on top, the patched areas are way too obvious. Needs another coat, and I held out 300 bucks from their check and said when that final and needed per contract coat went on, I'd be very happy to pay them the final amount. I had houseguests yesterday when they came and was not here when they applied the product, a sprayer it appears from the overspray into my lawn, not too bad but still a mess, granted the centipede grass was for sure trying to get onto the road.

Between the barn electric and the driveway, my project budget is closed. That's enough for this year.

62 and patchy ground fog...reminded me of autumn a bit while taking a walk about this morn. When it hits 89 or 90 today I'll wake up and realize it's still summer.

Got a haircut on the list today, after a stop at the gym, and then over to Tractor Supply to stock up on sunflower seeds using their emailed coupon. Mowing this afternoon. I put the tiller on the Kubota and retilled 5 food plots yesterday...hopefully my last time encouraging the weed seeds to sprout.

That doesn't sound like fun...5 months left in the year, or are you on a July 31 fiscal year? :)

Actually I'm really thanking the stock market for rising and "paying" for this

Now that was the project budget. I didn't mention the fun budget...;)
Retired financial planners have lots of budgets.
And actually if you pay attention to them things can work out nicely. Not like I always do.
I'm just more aware that I'm doing something stupid.

Several hundred grand in uncovered medical and experimental cancer drugs in the last two years of my wife's life
changed all my plans. One reason no fancy guys' man cave in the rear. And no expensive boat.
But I feel very fortunate to be where i am, surrounded by a lot of poverty and scraping by.
I'm living a champagne life in a beer budget town on a modest wine budget.

and I'm going to learn how to weld when I'm not driving my tractor.
Life is Good.

65.8F and clear/sunny @ 07:30 ... high today is supposed to hit 91F.

Landline internet service restored ... without a visit.

The plumber is apparently chomping at the bit to get started over at the daycare so that means floor demo time today. Have about 12' or so of concrete floor to remove so he can upsize the drain line for a grease trap and add a drain line for a couple of additional sinks. Architect said smallest grease trap would be fine ... which would have worked with the existing drain line. Of course the building department decided otherwise = more T and E ... and expense. Idiots ...

Loaded the electric jackhammer in the van last night, need to grab the hammer drill and dust masks before I head over.

This should be fun.

... RS, what is squirrel protector made out of. ...
Ron,

24" section of 6" galvanized round HVAC duct and a 6" galvanized cap.

Think the hole in the center of the cap is 3/4", IIRC ... take a 1/2" EMT coupler and cut it in half, trimming out the stop in the center and slide it and a 3/4" machine bushing (washer) over the conduit for the cap to rest on. Works great ... have had absolutely zero problems on feeders and nest boxes since I started using them

Good Morning! 66F @ 5:00AM. Sunny. High 92F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

80s during the day are quite pleasant, but I agree with you, Eric, having no relief during the night would make for unpleasant sleeping. I think we should all be glad we aren't circumnavigating France on a bicycle these past two weeks!

Sounds like you're making up for lost time Ron. Glad you're feeling better and mostly recovered!

Was any explanation given, RS?

Actually I'm really thanking the stock market for rising and "paying" for this
I wish you luck in that endeavor, Drew. I hope that expressing the above thought hasn't jinxed it for all of us. August has been bad news for my portfolio in several past years, and with record highs on the DOW and S&P, there's a lot of room for profit taking and subsequent downturn. Not to mention the uncertainty that always accompanies an election year.

Finished painting all five van wheels yesterday, and though the results aren't perfect, they are as good as I was hoping for. I'm always nervous buying paint, as you never know what it's going to look like until it dries on whatever you're painting. This company (House of Kolor) sells quite a few different shades of silver, and I really didn't want some glittery Kustom looking finish. So I picked the finest grind base silver and just clear coated it, and it's exactly what I wanted. There are a few drips and chips that I missed and show through, but you have to know where to look and I don't think most folks are going to get down on their hands and knees to do that. And best of all, there's plenty left to fix those inevitable cases of curb rash in the future.

The paint shipment showed up yesterday afternoon, so today I'll finish the interior on the van. Just need to mask off the floor and tack things down before I start. While I'm waiting I'll finish smoothing up the practice head, then swing by the mechanic's place this afternoon while I'm in town to get his OK to proceed with the real thing.

Good morning! 72˚ before the sun hits the ground but we will hit 90˚ by 9 and 100˚ by 5PM the hottest hour.

Our VFD was dispatched to a wreck to direct traffic on a country road where the speed limit is 45 mph. A head-on collision around a curve. All air bags deployed- no injuries, but some Frd-express packages will be delivered a day late.

RNG, what primer are you using? I need to start grinding/sanding on my utility trailer. With this 100˚ weather, for the next 6 weeks. It was easy to call the local body shop to get an estimate - $900. That's how much I paid for the trailer! - so I'll start the job next week in the mornings. I will be doing a slow job, not as quick as you are going.

73 this morning and headed to 92 today. Heat advisory out for a 110 heat index.

Electrician said he'd be out tomorrow. Wires are only discolored where they touched the insulation. But I want a second opinion.

Will be plumbing in the water valve for the shower. Then mudding drywall.

Good morning all. 79F this morning, dew point has dropped to 70F, with clear skies and calm wind. Forecast for 98F and moderate wind. Leaf cleanup, weed-eat and consulting are on the TMA list.

All the paint I'm using on the van is made by Valspar owned House of Kolor, Don.

The primer is the KD3000 series, gray for the interior, white for the exterior. It's not cheap: About $140/gallon, plus $45 for a quart of KDA3000 catalyst and another $22 for a quart of RU312 reducer. The 3000 series primer can be used as a high or medium build surfacer, or as a sealer, depending on how much reducer is added. It also sands very nicely with 500 wet'n'dry, with no clogging of the grit. You can apply it over bare metal, old paint, and plastic. Details here: Primers - House Of Kolor

All of the HOK paints are basecoat/clearcoat, maybe more work than it's worth for a trailer. But I really like the way that the same reducer is used for the primer, base, and clear coat, and the base and clear flow pretty well (sometimes too well, as evidenced by my ever present runs).

Any two part direct to metal primer would also be fine, but I'd stick with something from PPG or DuPont, and go to an automotive paint store for advise.

Good Luck!

Big pop storm yesterday, an inch of rain in 45 minutes. Nice again today, then hot and humid for a week, near 100° this weekend. The ac will be on the garage, too hot to work outdoors.

89 degrees and relatively low humidity, 49%, I'll take it.
critter morning, first the frog on my trash can sitting in a puddle of dew, and the turtle
who moved not one inch the entire time I saw him. Clearly a patient fellow. Later he was gone,
further down Terrapin Track road.

Coming back through town I saw a guy behind a walk behind mower that I'm surprised hadn't caught on fire
it was smoking so much. It might have been that extra quart of oil put in, or it might be the quart of oil that should have been
put in...
