The WICKED Root & Debris GRAPPLE!!!!!!!

I am considering a 60 or 66" dual lid for a 110 tlb, but was wondering how many owners/users have had issues with debris coming through the open back section? I have seen someone with expanded metal on one of the wicked grapples (it was a Kubota.. I think), and If it were an option I believe I would get it. I (at least I think) would be willing to lose a few pounds of lift to not have a wayward branch damage something. thoughts/opinions? Thanks to all who have added to this very long post.

At the risk of reviving World War III - read thru this thread. towards the middle to end there is some good Pros & Cons discussion of that very thought.

Good reference for the discussion. Many Wicked Grapples have already been shipping with the protective bars, but we haven't "officially" advertised it on the website because some existing inventory doesn't have them.
If it is requested when the order is placed, we'll be glad to include them.

I picked up my Compact 50" about a month ago and it had the protective bars. They're a nice touch and sure helps protect the tractor against limbs poking through. They're really solid.

Here's a look at the 66" Wicked Grapple with protective bars installed on a Kubota L3800.

Any protection is better than none but I've always thought that you need both vertical and horizontal protection to keep out the radiator puncturing size branches. A solid 1 1/2 inch stick can easily puncture the grill and radiator if rammed through the grapple while compressing a brush pile. I have damaged my grill but not (yet) my radiator with just that type of stick. If I ever find any suitable section used, I will weld in a section of metal platform floor or stair grating. That would keep the blighters out. Redirect Notice

Before we got our new tractor and Wicked Grapple, we had a homemade brush bucket for our old IH 886. It had a solid plate for years until we cut "windows" in the sides so that the operator could see what he was doing. We left the plate in the middle to protect the radiator. It's good to be Wicked.

I'm sure that would work if backed up. The grating I favor would almost certainly withstand more abuse but would also block more view and is much more costly if purchased.
