Back home tonight.

Wonder how high the vegetation has got while you were away ? I suspect your new flail may be earning it's keep this week.

We need it.

David, your trip sounded great...thanks for the updates and hope you had a safe trip home.

Good morning all, Hope you all are well. 64 here this morning going to 82. Wind could be as high as 24 mph. Could be rough for the firefighters on the mountain. I said yesterday that the fire had burned 6 square miles, I was wrong it is 16 square miles, 10,376 acres. We are supposed to get rain today and for a while but they are saying less than 1/10 of an inch unless we get thunder storms. The fire is about 60% contained, from the satellite pics the whole east side is out but there is still a lot of fire up there.

Spent the day yesterday putting in a new toilet in the new house. We are buying from friends and even if something happened and the deal fell through I would not mind at all that I put it in. Every thing is working but slow. Got to go to the dump today and try to get the trailer loaded for another trip to the storage unit.

Eric those beds look great, hope you get lots of good veggies from them.
Roy be careful in that snow.
TxDon 1000 hr's wow, you need to have a party with cake and everything. Ed

34F light mist in the air low 40's for high, good coating of snow upon the ground in which we need for any brush fires that may pop up,,but 3=5 inches sure seems way off before the storm ends around 5pm...we'll see.

Got today off,got to make BIG dump run before new pellet furnace arrives Friday.

Enjoy the day all.

62 going to 82 today, clear day turning cloudy and then some precip coming in tonight. Unlike our recent dry weather, the forecast
is pretty wet for the coming week. Seems odd all these fires on the East Coast, one burning to the East of me in the swamp and another burning up in the Shenandoah mountains. We think forest fires are Western events, but clearly this dry spell we have had here is creating problems. Maybe this incoming wet weather will put it all out.

If David got to sleep in his own bed last night, I bet it was a wonderful night's sleep. Home again. I'm hoping for a travel recap, planes, trains, unicycles?

since I didn't go sufficiently off topic enough....:) here's a little tidbit of info that will generate discussion
the next time any of us talk to a financial adviser. They just got new rules, tougher rules, more consumer protective rules.
The same rules I had to use while a CFP, the client's interests were paramount, not the broker's. Now there is a law behind that even stronger
than what has come before, since it opens financial folks up to legal penalties if they pad their pocket instead of doing the best for their clients.
so in other words, the standards once held by those holding the highest financial degrees are now applied to every person in the food chain.
My will this create paperwork. You will be asked to fill out all those client data forms one more time for sure.

The Rule
So, what does the rule do anyway? Any attempt to summarize such a complex rule will necessarily fall short, but in essence, the rule imposes a best-interest test on those who provide advice on retirement accounts, including IRAs and 401(k)s. An advisor may still recommend that an investor roll over money from a 401(k) into an IRA, may collect a commission on an IRA, or may even sell an investment product with high fees. But, among other obligations—and there are many—he or she will need to establish documentation showing that a particular investment decision was in the best interest of the client.

If they cannot document that they serve investors’ interests, broker-dealers, 401(k) plan providers, and other retirement advisors face potential private legal actions, including possible class-action lawsuits.

59F and partly cloudy @ 07:45 ...

Got woken up at some point early this morning before it was light out by thunder and lightning, immediately went back to sleep. Looks like we got around 1/2" (0.46) overnight ... satellite seems to indicate that it's all moved out, but they are still calling for a possible shower later.

We have one rhododendron that started to bloom here, and the apples, dogwoods, and magnolia tree are blooming. The Woman reports that her dahlias are producing buds/shoots, so they will need to be gotten in the ground.

On the menu for today:

1. Check and see if I have the oil and filter to do an oil change on the kubota, as I'm less than 3 hours away from the 1800 hour mark.

2. Need to see if I can scrounge up some internal seal kits for the loader curl cylinders, along with bushings, to handle the floppiness. I'm gonna guess that the bushings will be no big deal (McMaster-Carr) ... but the internal seals might be more problematic, unless I want to go with the highway robbery option @ the kubota dealers.

3. Replace hose from front hydraulic outlets to grapple. After repeatedly messing with the connection between the hose and the FPT to FJIC adapter, I've come to the conclusion that it's either that A. the hose is leaking at the crimp, or B. the threads on the hose are just totally pooched. Either way, the hose is getting replaced.

4. After nearly destroying the wiring harness for the diverter valve yesterday when I removed the loader to mow, I've decided it really is time to install the Weather Pack connector.

5. Find and cut some angle for protectors for all the implement QA plates, to keep the QA pins from getting shoved upward and releasing the implements when in contact with the ground.

6. Order right front turn signal housing for The Woman's car. Noticed that the right turn signal was blinking rapidly a while back, figured she had a bulb out. Left the car up @ the shop a couple of days ago and noticed when I walked up to get it the other morning that the entire housing was MIA like someone had removed it ... WTH ?

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, safe, and productive day.

64 this morning and headed to 82 today. Rain coming in after lunch.

Got the wagon frame home. Tongue is froze. No up and down travel. But will steer. What do you expect it spent the last 30+ years parked in a barn used as a feed wagon. Packed a lot of feed and mineral and salt up that tongue. Will have to cut bolt out and replace.

New helper also came by for 4 hours. Seems to be working out good. Time will tell though. I've had others start good. Suppose to come back today unless it's lightning.

Hopefully I can get some brush piles pushed up before the rain gets here. As I have some that need torn apart and repiled. Don't get near enough hours on the dozer any more.

Drew. That's good news. I'm not a fan of over regulation but I do believe in accountability. Especially when someone with minimal knowledge is going to an expert. I had similar standards when I was a Certified Crop Advisor. Not law but like you through a professional organization.

I was surprised to see a drought map this weekend that showed much of the Appalachian mountains abnormally dry. Even here in KY.

RS, that beautiful grapple deserves some new hoses, good ones. Armored ones...

they look like trailer plug connectors. Never seen them (hmmm, yeah, I have, in the engine compartment) , learned something new. I have a few of the crimp connectors with the gel inside, pricey little things.

Good morning! 72˚ cloudy. Warm night after warm day, the AC had to help cool the house. Rain is expected tonight. I like starting the day with no set projects that way the project that jumps out can be taken care of immediately.

Good Morning! 48F @ 6:00 AM. A mix of clouds and sun early followed by cloudy skies this afternoon. High 71F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Hope you got to enjoy your own bed last night, David, and thanks for letting us tag along on your marvelous trip.

RS, sounds like the ancient curse is upon you: May you live in interesting times...

Roy, does April snow bring May flowers, too?

Yesterday I used the trailer I borrowed from my neighbor to drag the donor Vanagon home for some bone pickin'. Part of the deal was to get the trailer lights working, and to mount a receiver that would accept my portable winch (winch, NOT wench. That "i" makes a big difference ;)). The lights were the usual nightmare of crossed wires and useless pigtails, but after most of a day I got it all sorted out. I used a gifted trailer hitch (Thanks, Pat!) to make the winch mount, and after figuring out the grounding had that working, too.

Things were going swimmingly at the pickup until the van got about half way up the ramps and the trailer tongue shot up about a foot and a half off the hitch. It seems that the neighbor didn't properly latch the thing, and I was pretty lucky just to make it down the hill in one piece. Lesson learned: no matter how much you think the person hooking up the trailer knows, do your own inspection and ask questions about anything you don't understand.

Anyway, I got the poor thing home safe and sound, and in spite of the sloping driveway, managed to keep it out of Lake Oroville. Even though it's a fully loaded Westfalia, I found it manageable to unload myself, then push it around until I got it shoe horned into the garage. I'm thinking this is the automotive equivalent of a BMW airhead motorcycle, something one person can literally get their arms around to understand and work on.

I think this is the start of a beautiful relationship...

Yup ... that's the ones ... although mine have the green seals not red.

(Different colored seals are for different wire diameters/gauges)

Yeah ... they aren't cheap ... but work pretty well from what I understand.

The crimping tool is the really expensive part ... to get a good spring-loaded one figure $100 ...

For this one-off job, I'll see if I can't make do with the $4 crimper from HF.

RNG what is the name of the color of the van? On my monitor it looks like peach.
