Just got first TIG rig!

/ Just got first TIG rig! #41
I have a foot pedal, water cooler, and torch. What is the water cooler supposed to do? My Grandpa and I need to stay away from auctions. Almost all of the equipment in both of our shops came from auctions.

Download the manual but in the meantime I snapped a photo of my connections. Should be similar to your machine but can't say for certain.

Feel like a road trip up north?
Miller Tig welder

That unit looks a little too hungry for my 30A breaker or 8,000W generator. I think it wants 60A. WeldingWeb has a thread on it too. I'd like an AC/DC TIG that is 120v/240v. Was looking at some Everlast, 185DV. I didn't see that it comes with a foot pedal and torch. Would my Miller torch & pedal attach to it?

I have a similar stick welder. I don't know the exact breaker size, but it is pretty hungry. Mine is 3 phase. If you are buying any piece of industrial equipment you need to check if it is 3 phase because most are. View attachment 444668 View attachment 444668

I don't know, you'd have to ask Mark. I'm sure Mark will make you a great deal on a Tig welder. Shipping isn't bad, they ship out of San Francisco!

I dont think they would fit Sodo, The torch maybe, But it comes with a 17 air cooled torch, but the foot pedal is optional. It is something you are definitely going to want. But as said, ask Mark, he will know. He will also make you a better deal if you tell him you are a TBN member.

Heres my footpedal and torch connections.

If I could find a TIG that used these it could save a few bucks. What do you call the TIG feature that doesn't have to scratch start?

High frequency start

You can get a Miller adapter 14 pin to 6 pin (like yours) but I don't think the other way around to fit more common Millers.

Probably no easy inexpensive way to use yours for other brands.

Sodo, by looking at the Everlast 185 manual, the Pins are different on the pedal. Yours is 6 pin and the Everlast is 7 pin. Also the Everlast torch has a separate gas connection, and power connection. Is your miller just one connection for both power and gas?

7 pin vs 6 makes it more difficult. Miller Torch is only "one connection" power+gas.

What about the Longevity kit, $900 for everything but the Argon bottle.

Sodo has the "flow thru Dinse "(power and gas)

Sodo as SA mentioned, have you tried lift arc? I think your machine has it.

Terry you're right MultiMatic200 does have Lift start.
In fact I'm thinking of changing my screen name to "Lift Arc" :D      Wait let me Google that first it kinda sounds like some stage of a deviant reproductive maneuver,,,,

Tried lift start tonite and it is MUCH better! This was pretty darn easy. Its 3/8" stainless steel hydraulic tube, about 18ga. No filler rod. Another problem I'm finding with TIG, I can't see. Need some kind of cheater lens. I haven't yet learned to extinguish the arc by letting up on the footpedal just pull back. Will try to add that in too. This is too much fun. James and Terry, ( & SA !) thanks for getting me going on this!

That looks pretty good! See you're getting the hang of it. Now onto open root pipe welding.:D

That's looking pretty good! +1 on the cheater lens. I can't weld without them.

Wow. Lookin real good, Lift Ar.. Er Sodo!

Cheater lenses are cheap. Buy one of each strength. Try them all at different situations.

( trying to think of some Shield/ Lift witticism but too early so I won't bother :))

Piece of advise about the cheater lens, dont bother, just go buy some of those cheap reading glasses. I have the cheaters in my hood which means nobody else can weld with it. That sounds good, but whenever I use it, I have to take off my bifocals and set them up out of the way and when I get thru welding, I cant ever find where I laid them.
