That is a great idea, except I have other attachments to carry too.

Worse, all the trailer guys are in texas it seems and one, just one salt exposure makes the lousy, cheap powder coat paint explode off of the trailers because every trailer OEM is too cheap to use real automotive paint that could survive a mild saline-water exposure.

folks who know something different about trailer paint feel free to jump in as I'm in the market for a longer trailer with better paint.

I've never been a fan of powdercoat on trailers. There are a few around here that mention two coats of primer and two coats of paint in their advertising. It's all in the prep though...nice primer and paint over surface rust won't hold up either. Speaking of different climates, I brought a Carson trailer (that I'd owned for five years) to Texas when I moved from SoCal. I found out after the first six months here that a coat of pretty paint over bare metal wasn't enough for the the humidity.

Whatever you do, don't get slide-in ramps when you get a new trailer. Your neck / back problems will thank you. Stand-up ramps are okay, but spring assisted flip-over ramps are better.

Glad to know things overall are going well for you. I don't have the gate issue, but I do have trouble getting into the gears from neutral rather often. I loaded some concrete slabs last week and found that I'm very happy with the strength of the loader.

One thing I'm curious about - do you ever regret buying a tractor instead of a CTL or skid loader?

Having both, I much prefer my tractor because I use the PTO a lot with a tiller/mower/etc., work large areas of dirt in fields, lift equipment/pallets/etc. with the loader when I get in/out of the machine with the load in the air, etc. It seems much of what you do though would be best done with a skid loader, not just this particular video.

BTW - next month once I have all the safety functionality worked out, I will demo my fender-mount inching/creep switch for the hitch. Making it work is incredibly simple, but I've added a micro controller which verifies throttle position is idle, transmission is in low, etc. as well as some protection stuff.

I think a CTL will be my next big purchase... Really like the ASV/Terex units. For finish grading I love my tractor, but for rough and final (inspection) grades, I think a CTL would excel.

...

Kapper, I love comparisons. I'm interested in the small or large differences you find between the 4720 @ 66 HP and the NX6010 @ 59 HP. Every time I stop by my Massey/Kioti dealer, if I have time, I play on as many tractors as I can. I agree with you on the Kioti trans lag. It's like there's an electric delay while it confirms what it's supposed to do. My Massey has zero lag, and that difference is very noticeable.

---

Eric, I can't find the post where you explain how your trailer was derated... We have the same trailer, 5200 lb axles. Can you pm me, or just post here again, how it's actually rated higher than the 9899 on the tag?

TSO - ASV/Terex.........yikes! Unless you're planning on mulching full time, I'd look at something else. In the last few months I've spent about $4,100 on my Case's undercarriage. Those were not for parts that broke, but for typical wear items - tracks, front and rear idlers and sprockets. My machine is at 1290 hours. Compare that to undercarriage replacement pricing for the Terex and I think you'll be surprised. The only two machines I'll ever consider purchasing in the future are Takeuchi and Kubota. They're both uncomplicated machines with fully welded, track specific undercarriages and flip up cab doors. Swing out doors are a huge PITA. Want to chain something on the deck of the trailer to the bucket?...can't do it, can't get out with the arms up. Want to leave the machine with two attachments on the job placing your bucket over the unattached item so it doesn't get stolen?...no can do, can't get out. Blow a hydraulic line with a brush cutter elevated on a bank? The only way only way out is to remove the back window. I could give you a few dozen more examples. There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to exit the machine unless the arms all the way down.

The trailer tag assumes 15% of the weight is on the tongue and the axles themselves are unsprung load and while the weight of the two axle counts toward total towing weight, it is backed out of the trailer's load weight capacity. As I recall, that was what the math told me when I puzzled it out on the trailer's weight sticker and then called PJ Trailer's to confirm. PJ Trailer's asked for my serial number and after looking it up, confirmed. Anyway, 9800 pounds of what we call the load sounds about right because gross weight accommodates the weight to the trailer (which i don't remember off of the top of my head, but should sharpie on my trailer so I have it at the ready).

I don't have a tag on my tractor tongue like you do... My tongue is just stamped as "rated for 12,500" ... But here's the sticker on my frame:

I'm back in the TC showing my house that I listed on my local MLS. But while I've had my tractor over at the lake house, I've using it to clean up windfalls, while noticing seemingly endless numbers of standing dead trees I should take down.

This week I knocked out an engine oil change on my tractor, but haven't had the time to look into the range shift linkage. Inspecting the linkage isn't going to do much anyway as there isn't a spec listed for adjustment, and so I'm really waiting for the transmission to pop out of range again so I can see if it seems to pop out in one direction only which may help figure out if I should adjust the linkage one direction, or if there is a gating issue inside the transmission itself. If it winds up in the transmission, I'll focus on replicating the problem on purpose so a Kioti dealer can "see" the problem without the machine working under a load.

As I shared elsewhere, I had a cable contractor problem yesterday.

I was leaving for town yesterday but stuck around to watch the cable contractor put in cable for the internet. Here is the exact moment the cable company contractor hit the septic line for the second time in as many minutes. Because everybody needs to use a 17,000 pound vibratory plow to put wire 12" into the ground.

Meanwhile, 80 feet away, here is how my septic guy and I discovered the septic tank: the entire transfer pipe has gone AWOL, having been ripped out by the subsoiler and taken for a ride when in the first three feet of working the cable company contractor nailed by septic lift line which was right were I told them it was and warned them about it being shallow.

My septic guy, Dave, from Backhoe Pete's came to my rescue with 80' of 2" ID well casing and rigged up a temporary transfer line so my 89-year-old mother can run water while I am out of town.

Just seeing the Name PJ on your trailer gets my blood boiling. I have a 2011 PJ Deck Over Dump with drop sides (14 foot long goose neck). It has NEVER been in salt and is babied beyond belief. After one year and one month the paint started coming off in sheets! Now, much of the paint is gone and it is a rust bucket. It has only been used for light stuff like bales of straw, rice coal and wood chips. Both hydraulic lines had to be replaced after only two years because they are leaching so bad. Then the hydraulic cylinder started leaking and had to have the seals replaced. They are an absolutely useless company that wont stand behind anything and get offended for accusing them of making complete and utter junk. They blamed one of there employees that must have been working that day for not prepping the metal correctly. After speaking with 22 (not 2 but 22) different owners in my area who have various colors, years of manufacture and type of trailers but all PJ branded they ALL have the same issues! I spoke with the PA Attorneys General office and of course once the year is up PJ is off the hook for everything. One of our local very large rental places sent one back down to PJ because on its first day out it came back and after hauling a skid-steer the paint was starting to come off the outside sides. PJ sent it back and said it was misuse. Useless product and even worse people. Sorry for my rant but after spending over $10k it is sickening what they do to guys that are just trying to buy a quality American made product.

Thanks again,
Glenn
