70 degrees this morning high of 86 later with no chance of storms until the weekend. Big storms came close to us last night but no direct hit for us. So sorry to hear of Mikes passing. May God bless he and his family

66F mid 70's for high...teasing of cooler weather to enjoy.

That's a kick in the back pockets about Mike. :(

Enjoy the day all.

65 with 87 this afternoon and maybe some showers.

Sunflower fields are full of blooms.

We're making and using a gallon of sugar water for the hummingbirds each day. Now that the young have fledged they seem to be thirstier than ever. Glad Costco sells sugar by the 25 lb bag.

Good morning, only 13C/55F, although the sun promises to warm that a few degrees more by this afternoon.

Kev, on average, enough ewe lambs to make up just over 1/8th of the flock need to be kept each year. It is tempting to retain the lambs that are not ready for market and sell all the others, however that could lead to only breeding from the least productive sheep. Prices are so low this year, it would be a good time to keep a few more.

Technically I don't own these sheep, I "share farm" with 2 friends who are full time farmers. I have enough on dealing with the abundance of paperwork that goes with the European bureaucracy for simply growing grass to feed them. They handle all the paperwork that goes with the livestock and also make the decisions on breeding.
Every sheep in the UK now has to have an ear tag with a unique number visible on the outside and with an electronic copy inside. This has to be recorded whenever it is moved between holdings, taken to market or otherwise disposed of, in addition to other records of medical treatment.

It is said to hear that someone who obviously meant a great deal to many of you has died in an accident. My condolences to Mike's family and all who new him. A lot of people must have great memories of the things you did together.

78 degrees already, with what looks like a slight cooling trend coming in for a few days.
RIP Mike. Texas lost another good one. So did we.

Billie, take a pic of those sunflowers, must be beautiful.

dentist called and moved my appt back to late morning. I'd rather have it first thing and then have my day to myself; doc appts mid day means by the time I get home it's usually the heat of the day.

Thinking about getting myself a Kindle paperwhite reader. Versus a tablet. I have a laptop to use downstairs, wonder what purpose a tablet vs a reader would provide vs more weight and obviously more features. But to read, I think light weight would be best. And the high contrast screen on the dedicated reader models seems to make more sense for, well, reading...

I noticed on Amazon today that one can download the Kindle ebook reader to one's pc for free.
Today is a big sale day of theirs, some anniversary special.

Cool day here 74 now with a high of only 87 with 80% chance. Sure wish I could stay home and work in the fields, but my work orders are piling up faster than I can get them done. By the time I got home it was pouring rain, till dark. Couldn't do anything outside. Just as well, my wife twisted her knee and is in agony. So I took care of feeding everything including her. She said she could get used to laying around being served... NOT.

I am sorry to hear about Mike, I did not know him but as most stand up guys do, sounds like he had lots of close friends. News like this is always sad.

That looks like work Gary!
I was looking at where your town is relative to Windsor and realized you live further south than many Americans. Your town is about the same latitude as central Iowa.

I have had people from Northern Michigan ask if it is real cold where I live, when I tell them that I live south of them they look confused.

Good morning, a chilly 59F here heading to 73F.

there was some talk of wireless speeds earlier.
I found this article interesting, no cell phones allowed in a large area.
America's quietest town: Where cell phones are banned

as one who lives alone and works on machinery, a cell phone is a real safety item for me.
As it is for all of us who work in fields and woods. But most of us are old enough to know when they simply did not
exist.

I wonder if all the homes in this area must have fully wired internet connections, no wireless routers...

Very interesting article Drew. Wired connections are more reliable and stronger than wifi and hard to beat a cable connection

BTW First thing I did this morning was order a new Kindle fire.

72 this morning and headed to 87 today. Supposed to be a nice day compared to what we've had. Front came through temps dropped 10 degrees and the dew point has also. Dew points had been almost 80 now 68. Much more manageable.

Got the mower repaired after its fit yesterday. Had new hand on it and it started blowing black smoke and wanting to die. It's a gasoline engine. I was thinking a carb problem as I blew out air filter before he started and it wasn't dusty. He had mowed for about 3 hours before it started this. Local mower repair man wasn't home so I grabbed a spark plug and headed to dealer for plugs and air filter. Talked to the lead mechanic there who thought to grab a flashlight and check the old filter. He said it doesn't look bad but it's completely clogged no light could get through. So returned home and put in filter and spark plugs. Runs like a scalded ape now. I couldn't bog it down on the little patch I mowed yesterday. It wasn't supper tall but had been a couple of weeks and had seen several inches of rain. Mowed as fast as it would run.

Hand is coming back today. Let him weedeat house then mow chicken coops. Think I'll go bushhog some of the pastures off behind the cows.

Drew I always set my doctors appointments up for the middle of the day so I can sit in their air conditioning during the heat of the day. And I'm not sitting around waiting on them during the coolest part of the day.

Drew - Seriously consider an Android tablet if you don't have one. I've been carrying a Samsung 8" note for 2 years. Admittedly I'm a techno geek and have been carrying a pocket computer since 1998 (?).

I download all PDF manuals for about everything I buy and thus have them HANDY and readable when I'm working on stuff. I go to Home Depot, Lowes, etc. look at an item and check online prices while standing there.

And I read all my "kindle" books I've bought on it.

Don't get me wrong, the Kindle is good, SWMBO has one, but it's a one trick pony.

70F with some light rain this morning. Could use more rain, we've been watering a few garden things the past week.

I should look at Amazon Prime deals, there must be something I need. :D

67F @ 7:00AM. Sunny. High 97F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Sad to hear of the passing of someone before their time. And scary as it could have happened to almost any of us. There but for the grace of God...

Nice upgrade, Gary. Much easier to keep clean, too!

Kev, that's a lot of nectar! They're sipping about a half gallon a day here, made up in four gallon batches and stored in the 'frig in old milk cartons. I was boiling the solution, but stopped last month and haven't noticed any issues with mold or bacterial growth. Good thing, as it was heating up the whole house!

I have a doctor's appointment later this week, at 5PM! I'll be able to use the cool of the morning (it's supposed to be the hottest day of the week), run errands in town, and have everything done but the grocery shopping before the appointment. Wish more offices had appointments this late!

Just spent 15 minutes scanning for something I could actually use at Prime Day, only to find one with tons of one star reviews. Guess there's a reason they're trying to get rid of them...

And speaking of Amazon Prime, anyone else having problems with meeting delivery dates? I just started the service last month, and the two items that were supposed to have two day service have taken three or four. Not that I'm in that much of a hurry, but if I'm paying extra for the Prime membership, shouldn't I be getting service as advertised?

Body parts all painted, but I've a couple of runs to iron out today. But maybe I'll let the paint cure for a couple more days while I clean up some of the chassis dirt and grime. Probably should replace the two remaining fuel lines as well. They're only 30 years old, how old is that in people years?

Happy hump day everyone!

Good Morning. 1005, partly cloudy, 91F {105 heat index} with 64% humidity. Forecast high of 90F with 40% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 77F tonight. I was in the garden by 0600, but it was already 79F {I think that was the low}. I got four rows of cucumbers transplanted, and saw something I very rarely get to witness.

My cleaning lady called in sick, so I have it by myself today. {I bet you would be able to tell the difference} I did get a load of clothes on before I went outside, and another since I came in. There is that. Tonight Sister, BIL and the little one are meeting Margie at Pizza Hut. I'll be able to slip away from work long enough for a couple of slices. Speaking of work, I have something every night for a week straight. I don't see that very often anymore. It will be good to make some hours.

You guys take care,

Larro

71°F and .11 inches rain last 24 hours.

Looking forward to another productive day. A bit of mowing done yesterday, another small section of drywall hung, Kalani home and recovering well from her surgery.

Be safe
Have a great day

Good morning all. 77F this morning and sunny, breeze started up about 7AM. Forecast is for 84F,HI 98F today. We took down the screens to the back porch yesterday, cleaned off the old dirt and caulk and will get them rescreened today. Will pick up a new sound card, the sound chip on the motherboard shot craps. Had the microwave start beeping at 1AM last night, ugh.

Drew,
My friends that recently moved to AZ have migrated to their iPads. Both are voracious readers and still read real books as well. The wife says she prefers the Kindle app on her iPad to her Kindle. Husband gives mixed report saying he still prefers a real book, but also prefers iPad over Kindle, of course at 81 perhaps any change to technology is to be applauded.

I read four or five novels a week, and stick almost exclusively to paper. I do have an Asus tablet, and will download a book to it once in a while. But that is only if it is a must read, and I'm going to be away from my PC or laptops. I find a tablet too small to do any real work on, and too big to fit in your pocket.

I did today when we visited with Mike's wife, Bernice. She was surprise that so many people (in the 3 different threads - Good Morning/Texas/Announcements) had sent their condolences. She is doing well during this difficult time and said that Mike died doing what he enjoyed doing, just too soon. . . he didn't get to finish all his projects . . I told no one ever finishes all their projects, we just prioritize, as soon as one is complete two come up. . . She said that when Mike retired people would ask him "What will he do? Mike said that he had 10 years of projects to do . . . of course after many years he still had 10 more years of projects. . . I'm sure we all can relate.
