the steel one is your fuel pump not a filter.I have a 2009 BX24. It has 3 fuel filters on it. I did not buy it new. Is it suppose to have 3 filters? one of them is steel and the other 2 is plastic. 1 beside the engine the other 2 underneath.
you don't eliminate it just replace it with the b series filter or one like it an mount it in another location by extending the fuel line from the fuel tank to the new filter assembly an back to the input of the fuel pump. That will NOT void your warranty.Yes, and I looked at eliminating the first in-line fuel filter and installing a better 'B' series filter near the second one by the engine. Dealer reminded me that the first one is before the pump so eliminating it could void the warranty. Oh well... I will wait until warranty expires but it is a pain because I have full body armor underneath and don't want to have to get to that one again. Here is a pic of the B series filter. Much better IMO. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/files/kubota-owning-operating/426718-bx-fuel-filter-change-lessons-img_2924-jpg"/>
