Comparison Kubota Snowblowers for the BX : BX2750 vs BX5450

I paid the $$ for the Kubota hydraulic chute rotation and I love it. I do recall it was expensive..$600 maybe? But when I want the chute to go left, it goes left...FAST.

Has anyone in Canada see a BX5450 for sale at a dealership ? After talking to several dealers here in Ontario, not one dealer had a clue about the BX5450. Maybe we are only going to have the BX2750 series until the pipeline gets cleared out and they sell out of the old stock ? Who would want the BX2750 if you could get the updated BX5450 for the same price ?

I got mine with the hydraulic chute rotation also, then added chute deflection myself: http://s674.photobucket.com/user/bumperm/media/Kubota Tractor/IMG_0838_zpsefbec052.jpg.html Note that a 2" cylinder is hardly necessary, but it's what I could find with a 4" stroke, which is about right and that dictates lever arm length. I added a 1/32" restrictor to slow the cylinder down to a managable speed and run it from with the 3rd function valve on the tractor. If you order hydraulic chute deflection from Kubota, I think they use an electric diverter valve from the hydraulic lines that run chute rotation. Lining the chute with UHMW polyethylene helps prevent even slushy snow from sticking and has the added benefit of more throw distance: http://s674.photobucket.com/user/bumperm/media/Kubota Tractor/IMG_0856_zps7d67d53c.jpg.html bumper

Very nice install on the UHMW!

Can't seem to get the direct links but you can see the 50" BX5450 and a heavier duty 55" BX5455D :licking: on this website.

3pt blowers are also MUCH better built and MUCH more rugged - made mostly from 1/8"-1/4" plate. The 2750 is really flimsy - same stamped metal thickness and construction as a push blower (except you don't get an engine for only twice the money). A 3pt blower is a completely different animal. Of course, you DO have to look over your shoulder...

Normally the 3 pt RM snow blower will raise up much higher than the typical front mount blower.
Giving the advantage of snow blowing deeper snow banks.

There are larger diameter impellers on RM blowers compared to the typical FM blowers for the BX.
Larger diameter impellers throw snow farther, due to the faster impeller tip speed.
For the BX, there is a Frontier SB1154 rear mount, it is 54" wide and has a 24" diameter impeller.
I presently have the Frontier SB1164 rear mount, it is 64" wide and has a 24" diameter impeller, on my Kubota B7800 and it will easily blow snow over 35 feet.

I've been using a rear mount snow blower on my Kubota B7800 for 10 years on a 530 foot gravel driveway and a 300 foot gravel driveway.
I have enough room to almost sit side ways in my seat, and still have the heel of my right foot operate the reverse HST pedal. So I'm not really, twisting my neck much to look rearward while snow blowing.
The more you can twist around in your operators seat the better. Some tractors may be too cramped to allow this.

When I purchased my B7800 in 2005, the ability to look rearward in comfort was important to me.
I past over Kubota's B7510 and B7610 to finally choose the B7800 just because it had more room for the operator.
I knew I wanted a RM blower because they were more heavy duty, and less costly then the FM blowers that were being offer for my B7800.
I also was getting ready to do a lot of rear blade dirt work, which requires looking rearward a great deal.

Good luck in your search

On the Kubota site, using the "build my Kubota", that adds up to $3205, so they're offering some discount. The site still shows the blower as a 2750d though, rather than the 5450. That's with manual chute and deflection. The site still doesn't even show the 55" offering!

Did you happen to get the price on the 5455? I see that comes standard with hydraulic chute rotate, which is a $804 option on the 2750.

No I haven't asked about the 5455 yet. Being bigger, HD, and hyd chute, it will probably somewhere in the $4500+ range I would image.

Edit: Just shot off an email to Lochen equipment for a quote on the BX5455D.

Price on the BX5455D w/ quick hitch, PTO, and hyd chute rotator(standard) is $4500.

Well, considering that adding the hyd chute to the smaller unit gets it up to about $4000, it seems like $4500 isn't too bad for the larger and HD one.

I agree.

How about a BX2789? I bought mine for $1700 new, installed (on my BX25), and it is a killer!

Isn't that a 3pt rear snow blower? This thread is about the newer front mount snow blowers.

For me, there's no front mount vs. 3-point blower debate. I can't twist around for long, nor would I want to.

Some of the "back blower" guys will dis the front mounts due to cost . . . a legitimate complaint I suppose, though it is easy to see why the extra cost when you consider the quick hitch mount and drive line. They also besmirch them for being lightly built or easily bent - maybe not so legitimate a complaint. I had a B2750 on my previous BX and had no problems whatsoever, even attacking hidden newspapers, the occasional pine cone, rock, or icy plow drifts, albeit slowly so as not require replacing shear bolts. The blower itself is sturdy enough. Throw distance, depending on snow, was 35 to 50 feet or so. I added a "power car window" chute rotation and a 12VDC linear actuator for chute deflection. An entirely satisfactory tractor/front blower combination save for the lack of a cab and wind that often wanted to blow back at me.

My "new" tractor has a cab and heater and a front mount B2782B, so life is good - - well, 'cept there ain't no snow.

Hi my name in Ron I have a BX25d-1 or 2014 I have a bx5450 snowblower the only difference between that and the bx2750 is the 5450 has four blades on the second stage and you can replace the shoes and cutting edge with plastic part# bx5444 skid shoes and part# bx5445 cutting edge. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Hey Ron,
Welcome and thanks for the information on the BX5450.

That's a nice looking setup you got there.

Where did you purchase the material to line the chute ? How did you attach it ?

The UHMW PE comes from either Plastics International (good pricing on larger sheets etc), or from Amazon - one of their sellers, Peachtree Woodworking, has good pricing on UHMW too, especially the thicker stuff that would be used for skids and blades.

With relatively small peices, such as would go in the chute, attaching can be with screws or pop rivets - mine are screwed and for the deflector, I drilled and tapped the housing itself (no advantage in doing that, I just went that way). For longer lengths, like the liner for the impeller housing, allowance needs to be made for the thermal coefficient of expansion of the plastic vs the steel. So one end of the impeller liner is screwed in place, while the other end has a slot to hole it down so it can slide in relation to the steel housing. That works great.

I purchased my BX2230 that was originally built without a hydraulic control kit.

The hydraulic control kit was quoted at $725, including installation.
The snowblower, BX5450 was quoted at $3,090, including quick hitch, subframe and PTO driveline kit.

Do you guys think these prices are fair?

/ Kubota Snowblowers for the BX : BX2750 vs BX5450 #39
Not sure, but doesn't sound too far off. When you say no hydraulic control kit, are you meaning there was no frontloader and joystick?

When I sold my BX2250, I sold the BX5450 front blower and mount separately to another buyer. The blower did have electric chute rotation and deflector controls that I built and included. That and the subframe got sold for $2500 IIRC and the guy was tickled to get it! You don't see many good ones for sale used.

You are correct - no front loader or the joystick.
