Winter of 1995 -96 Boston got 107 " of total snow that was the city .Outside the city we were right around 120"
Snow statistics in Boston are very deceptive. They are taken at Logan Airport, out in the harbor surrounded by relatively warm (37+) sea water. The seasonal average there is about 45".

I can see the Blue Hills from my house -probably 3-4 miles away and a couple miles inland. They average 60" a season. That would make Boston the 4th snowiest major metro area in the US (instead of 8th).

The wind has been strengthening and is currently 24mph gusting to 37.

Our driveway is two cars wide and about 30' long, and we have about 100' of sidwalk and walkways. I clear most of the sidewalk on our street and a couple of neighbor driveways.

Our old neighborhood after a 2011 storm. Figuring out where to put it is a big problem.

Were you in the East Boston area for the Blizzard of "78" I was over at the airport ,Working on the runway snow equipment ,My Father and I were contractors for Massport , The runways were drifting so bad you could not
keep up with it , In the days following I was very impressed when they called the troops in from Fairbanks Alaska , As the huge transport planes were circling we heard the control tower ask the pilots what they needed to
mark the snow covered runways ,The pilot replied "Give us flares at the beginning and flares at the end" They set those planes right down on completely snow drifted runways putting up huge clouds of powdery snow ,Just
when the snow would settle down the cargo door would open and out came Cat front end loaders one after another , All of them with NO cabs!!! and the drivers had big fur lined parkas on , They fueled them up and they
turned right around and headed back to Alaska for more equipment , Dad and myself spent close to 3 weeks repairing and patching plows and blowers before they let us go home for a few days and nights sleep !

No, I was living in Hampton Beach, NH. We got flooded out of the house for a week and my car got totaled due to salt water flooding. The gravel seawall on Rt 1A got washed right across the road.

My work was closed so I got a rental car and drove up to Waterville Valley and went skiing. MA had closed their roads so a bunch of people snuck across the border early AM.

Have any of you guys with back blades have any problems with damaging asphalt moving snow?
I use a FEL on my drive but my neighbor's drive is longer and I would like to use the back blade but don't want to damage his asphalt portion.

Use the convex side of the blade....either push the snow in reverse or, if your blade will rotate....rotate it 180 degrees...or however much angle you want. But the convex side should be in the direction of travel.

7;25 am here in mass , Darn good snowstorm so far , little over 18" so far , did not really get going til 12 midnight

8am report is 26" in Shrewsbury MA, 25" in Worcester, Boston 12" but we haven't hit the heaviest band yet. Nantucket lost power across the island and has significant flooding.

Statewide driving ban has been in effect since midnight, even though snowfall in western MA is modest.

Whichever you do with that blade after scraping the asphalt keep your fingers away from the cutting edge afterwards. It will be sharp enough to shave with.

I have not been out yet but it doesn't look too bad here so far. Perhaps a foot or so and it is cold with fine light snow. My problem as usual is going to be traction for the BX using a blower.

The driveway goes down the hill and the road is a hill from the side.
Get a lot of rain/melt runoff that freezes and builds up. So underneath the snow is going to be slick ice. Being out on the road and losing traction getting back in the driveway when traffic comes along needs to be avoided.

Last week the car was in park in the driveway on a near flat section. I was out of the car spreading buckets of sand. The car slowing started to move backwards and gathered speed went off the driveway and took out a couple of bushes. One wheel got hung up on the bush roots that saved it from going over the edge and flipping. Needed to call a tow truck to get it back up and onto the driveway.

Thanks guys. I will turn the blade around. This should make the job go faster on the light snows we get here.

bliz 2015 003.jpgbliz 2015 001.jpgJust measured 27" in sudbury at 10;00 am Pretty gusty , very light .easy plowing ,easy shoveling ,Pretty hard to walk through it though ,

About a 5 yard pile came off the roof of the garage and tried to bury me , no damage though:D My wind indicator senses winds of unknown speed from the NE, Sunsetter awning is at half-mast to facilitate snow

shedding as it has been seasonally for 18 years :)

Snowmageddon Feb 2010. 38 inches on Feb5-6 and then 24 inches more on Feb 9-10. I had to fix the waterpump on my Ford 1710 in the parking pad. It was the day I decided I was getting a new tractor.

Looking out of the tackroom window.

Picture130-1.jpg

That storm took out a 20x64' lean too shed on my farm down there in Fredrick.

Started snowing here this morning and is coming down hard now at 11:30 am with it starting to pile up . The plows are doing their best as it drifting quite bad due to all the wind . I won't go out until late this afternoon to do some clearing providing it lets up a little , if not I will wait until tomorrow . I may have to get out the big gun for this one . (Kubota M5700 W/blower and fel )

I finished my first pass on the driveway a couple hours ago, had well over a foot. Just finished shoveling the porch but a bush broom seemed to work best for that once the drifts were out of the way,
