I need some advice on model numbers. I need a four-wheel-drive loader tractor as small and light weight as possible , Cab or open station with the loader capable of picking up large round bales (2500#) and loading the top deck of an 18 wheeler. Right now we have a 7410, 6410,5101e all to big and 4310 to small . We had a 5210 and it would barely do all those jobs. So something similar or bigger will work.

I'm a little stumped.... I would recommend something along the lines of a big 5e series deere but you already own one. Anything less doesn't seem to me that it would be well suited to loading 2500lb bales. Curious to hear others thoughts...

It seems obvious to me that if a 50 some HP tractor would barely do what you need and 100 HP tractor with a larger frame was too big that something in the middle would work?

You already have a 7410. (with a loader?) Strip it of all extra weight ie no fluid in the tires. Use a grapple on the front and load two bales at a time. Put a fork on the rear and use a bale as a counter weight.

I've never seen a 2500 lb round bale. What are they? Is it haylage?
You're talking about lifting them pretty high too. You might have unrealistic expectations. It seems to me that you already have the proper machine. Can you explain why the 5E is too big for a 2500 lb bale?

What? Read what he said again.

Check out the 5e line. 45-75 hp with the h240 loader. In the middle between your 4 series and larger e series

Probably THE most confusing post I have seen . What are you trying to do ? Low clearance at the building ? 2500# bale will take a 10,000# tractor .And what is the top deck ?

Easy If you load 2500 lb bales two layers high on a semi with anything less than roughly that size of a tractor your stupid. Just my opinion. If you need small then buy a similar one without a cab. I'm assuming he wants to trailer the tractor hence less weight ie no fluid and a bale spear. If you need small to get into tight places than use the telehandler or make smaller bales.

I would think the 6410 is the smallest I would want for that ? Or make smaller more suitable bales and use a small tractor .

He said too big, didn't mention too heavy. That is where you lost me.

Telehandler They are using them around here to load round cotton modules in the field.

No brand war intended.

JD tractors tend to be heavy for their HP. So if lighter is paramount you'd switch colors.

But then you'd be trying to load 2500lb bales with a light chassis and you'd add ballast to compensate.

Thus, I can't see the problem with the 5E you already have.

But then, none of us are there. You are.

So, seeing your current selection of tractors and the conditions you've offered, I don't think JD makes a tractor to fit your needs.

I see that the OP has a telehandler listed in his signature. He seem's pretty well equipped already.

Compact track loader. John Deere 333E or equal. Should be able to lift to 100 inches.

If these are large, square bales start by stacking one bale on the trailer. Then stack two bales high on the ground and lift from the bottom bale to the level of the bales already loaded on the trailer - bales are then stacked 3-high.

There ya go! Didn't think of a track loader! I like it! But, the OP might have to swap out the 7000 or 6000 series machines...

Kidding!

Neighbor uses his Bobcat 320 CTL to load small squares with a 10-bale grapple. Fast.. Fast...fast! And minimal field damage.

Okay I'll try to explain it better for you guys. I Need a mid-size tractor. Similar to the 5210. Trying to figure out what other model numbers were for that same frame size tractor. I need a tractor that I can use in my indoor arena that has hydraulics on the rear for my drag and my hydraulic dump trailer. Would like it to be 8000# or less. I need this tractor when all of my other tractors are busy doing other jobs. The bales through our 605 vermeer average 2200#. We have a 5519 genie with a double bale grapple we unload trucks and stack the barn with. This will not be my #1 hay handling tractor but want the same size and abilities as the 5210 in a newer model.

Well, that narrows things down real good! That puts you right back in the 5000 series machines. Are you lookin' for an open station tractor or a cab? If weight is a concern, I'd stay with the E tractors. So, if memory serves the 5210 is around 55Hp. So, that would be either a 5055D (2WD) or a 5055E (4WD).

The D and E models are a bit lighter frame weight than the M tractors but you could stay with an open station and keep the weight down. The M's have a beefier transaxle housing, more transmission options, higher output hydraulics and heavier duty loader options. But, the bottom Hp level starts at 75Hp.

Best of luck. Lookin' forward to see what you finally decide on.
