I have 195 hard hours on my BX and finally broke something today. Well not including busting a zerk fitting, and putting tubes in the front tires to prevent slow leasks.

The parking brake no longer 'locks'. I haven't looked at it yet but I assume it will be an easy fix. So, I guess it is time to give it some tender loving care and do the 200hr maintenance, fix the brake, and give it a good clean and waxing. I aslo noticed after running for a few hours the last couple of days, it sporatically loses power/RPM intermittantly. I am guessing fuel filter? Probably will review what others have done and upgrade.

I'm curious to here what caused your parking brake to no longer engage. My bx is at right over 200 hours and I have observed more wear that I would have expected on the tab and catch arrangement that locks the parking brake. Good luck in getting things back in tip top shape.

I know there were a couple of pretty cool threads where people have done some neat things fabricating mounts for full size spin on filters. Scooby74's thread is the first that comes to mind.

Cant help ya with your parking brake but the losing power/sputtering issue you mention I'll tell you what fixed mine......Water in the fuel was the main culprit then trash in the tank that would restrict the flow of fuel exiting the tank.

The little fuel filter is IMHO a weak point with this machine. I pre-filter all the fuel going into my tank. I am at about 130-something hours and have not had any problems....I bet that fuel is an issue with yours, water like the other poster said or the filter just not flowing. If there was a way to hide another filter out of the way I would be all over it, but there is very little open room on these machines....I will figure something out as time allows.

As to the brake, not sure I have not given mine a second look, using the brake on these little machines is something you do quite often, I am going to have to check into that.

Cherokee - have you seen this thread on adding a spin-on Racor fuel filter to replace the dinky one under the deck? I ended up doing this conversion and couldn't be happier. I can see the filter and can drain out water as needed, plus it's an easy change out once it's time to do the fuel filter maintenance. Good solution in my opinion.

Well considering all the work you've acomplished with the machine a little TLC wouldn't hurt it. Not sure if you've seen the BX service video I did. It may help you out.
Cheers.

Yeah thanks for reminding me about Scooby's... I couldn't remember.

I am guessing water in the fuel line, seems to happen going up a steep hill. I will be replacing the filters.

Fuel for sure on sputtering

I think you may have picked up a branch or bottomed on a rock that bent something on the undercarriage affecting the brake.

Both should be easy fixes...

Hey could somebody climb under their BX (without skid plates) and take a couple pics of parking brake mechanism, both directly under the parking brake pedal and on the left side where the brake pedal and ratchet is at? I think something is missing or bent because I don't have engagement of the ratchet on the brake pedal.
