Temperature indicator used to sit around the middle of the gauge. Last year I tightened the fan, flushed out the coolant and replaced it, just regular maintenance. I've noticed that now the temperature gauge indicates maybe 1/8th at hottest, summer or winter. Don't know if it was the flushing or what. Everything seems OK but is low indication normal? Do I need to change the thermostat? Anyone else seen this?

My L3200 sits at 1/4 on the thermostat most of the time. Pushing it to the limit with the tiller on the PTO will heat it to 50%. I believe our tractors are almost the same a generation apart with only trivial changes.

My L3400 DT BOTA runs cool even on the hottest of SW Fla days. Might jump up to 1/4 temp gauge reading.
IMO your temp guage is working fine. I always kidd folks that if I moved to a real cold climate I'd have to block up the front air restriction flow to get guage to rise some.

Up here in the frozen north that is exactly what I do. On a cold day you will not get the engine up to temp unless you do.

Something has changed.
A thermostat check or change would be in order.
Nothing you did would likely be the cause of your low guage reading.
A thermostat change is neither difficult or expensive, and your engine wants to be run at full temperature for best engine life and fuel efficiency.

A quick check on cars and equipment is to run a cold engine 3-4 minutes under load, grab the upper coolant hose and feel the temperature.
The hose should still be cool-if warm, the coolant is passing the thermostat as the engine has not yet warmed up enough to open the thermostat.
Hope this helps-Good Luck!

I don't think you have a problem... my L3400D with 100 hours on it is exactly the same way, and runs perfect.

Mine runs just above the small tick mark on the temperature gauge, maybe 1/4? Only time it goes above that is if the radiator screen gets clogged with chaff.

For what it's worth my 2000 L3010 with 1100hrs runs the same. If I work it hard for several hours it get between 3/8 and 1/2.
