OK, yes I am a redneck. I have the required license and everything!:)

The donor chair was "all done". The hydraulic cylinder was dead and on top of that it was a press fit into the swivel bracket to make it a one piece replacement. None of the normal "universal replacement cylinders would fit, and they sold this bracket/cylinder as a single replacement part for $4 less than a complete new chair.. yep new office chair time..

But the rest of the parts were still good and I do have a 5 gallon bucket..... hummmm.. I could use a better shop stool.. the rest is all in the pictures.

No, but thanks Ken. I think the old painted 5 gallon bucket gives it "redneck charm":D

Great job! Remove the handle and paint the bucket Kioti orange and you're all set! :)

I am glad to see other repurposing stuff besides me. I also hate to throw away something that still has some uses

Love it James!

My office chair lost it's hydraulics a few months back. I got real tired of constantly having to stand up and raise my chair back up.

I took a piece of 1 1/2 PVC, split it length ways and zip tied it to the rod of the cylinder at full extension. No more sinking chair!

Maybe we ought to patent our ideas??

Hahaha

Thats a good one Dean.. I guess I could have done that, but I didn't think of it.. But the bracket the cylinder was pressed into was split really bad, It was dangerous, but I could have welded it back up I guess.. Oh well I needed a better shop stool anyway... Cool Idea you had tho, I need to remember that as redneck method number 2:)
