Looking at getting a polaris 570 side by side or a 900 Xp side by side. The new 570 has great reviews but I am wondering if I will miss the extra size the bigger machine. It will be use primarily for firewood transport and maintenance of a 9 acre property as well as some trail riding. I have 2 kids 6 and 4 who always want I be with me when I am working outside and will be getting rides on the machines. Thanks

I think the full size rangers are too big for trail riding. At least around here.

The only problem with your kids riding the 570 is there is only one other seat belt.

I have a 400 and love it! Very handy machine and plenty fast!

Good luck!

One of my worries is a bull in a china shop, to big to manuever in the woods to be able to get around. Also being that much bigger can I hake it onto public trails

Do these machines have a differential? When I was shopping for a Utility Vehicle, I chose the Kawasaki Over the six wheel Polaris for this reason alone. The Polaris had a solid axle and chewed up the turf on turns.

Beware. All these machines are incredibly expensive for parts.

Not sure about your state but up here most trails are limited to 60" machines, they have limiting posts or rocks at trail entrances to keep larger vehicles like Jeeps out. With my Gator 825i those are an extremely tight fit, I would really like to have a 6" narrower machine for the trails....if you're doing selective wood cutting and not swath clear cuts it's going to be much easier with the smaller machine to get around. I do like my Gator but it's really a whisker too big in my opinion.

Yes the Rangers have a diff. Work great. All UTVs should have them!!!

I think for the woods and trail riding the 900 would be too big, that's why I was asking for the help. It seems to me that the 900 is bigger than some of those ultra small smart cars

The 900 is 60" wide. The mid-size 570 is 58" wide and 8" shorter. So the mid-size will be a bit more agile in the woods but there will be very few spots that the 570 will go but not the 900.

You aren't going to sit 3 people in the mid-size.

The mid-size load capacity is half of the full-size.

I would suggest you go to an actual Ranger forum like http://www.prcforum.com/index.php to ask your question.

2" makes a big difference! And also 8" is much longer... This effects steering radius

I run a 4 seat RZR which is big BUT I am amazed where I can take it without any problems. I mostly ride with 2 seat machines and have yet to have a problem. One thing I did is bought a small dump trailer to pull for getting wood and such. Real handy on the tractor also.

Thanks for all you help. I have decided on the 570 polaris for now What options would those of you that have UTV get. I was planning on winch and bumpers but also about bigger tires and a roof

Don't forget the pictures!

Your usage is different from mine but I wouldn't be without a windshield.

I really like having a Flip Down windshield, but I don't see one offered from Polaris. They do have a Flip Out type, so you might want to take a look at one. Their fixed one is ok for winter, but will be hot in the summer.

If it doesn't already have them get steel CV guards...they are well worth having.

Here is the roof and tilt out glass windshield, on our Polaris Electric.

Doesn't swing out much, but has enough air flow and keeps the bugs off of your face.

Replaced the Carlisle 25-9.5-12, All Trail II, with Interco Interforce 27-7.5-14, 6 ply, 2" narrower, 2" bigger diameter.

The Electric uses the same tire size front and rear. Still have plenty of clearance.

A good set of skid plates!!! The factory ones are THIN and do not offer any real protection. A good set of aftermarket ones, while not cheap, will save the bottom from damage and pay for themselves over time. TUSK makes some very nice ones for a reasonable price.
I also believe A arm guards are a good idea. Nothing worse than a torn CV joint on the trail - not that expensive but a pain and something that can often be avoided.
Good luck and enjoy
