BX25 Tire Chains

I have a BX25 with industrial tires. My driveway is a sheet of ice. I want to get tire chains. I have a few questions: should I get both front and rear or just rear, 2 link or 4, regular or v-bar, where is a good place to buy them? thank you

---and 2 link ice (or studded) will slip less on ice and therefore make less marks on the pavement.

Go to your dealer, or any tractor dealer. Chains for your 26-12x12 tires should be a standard thing at any implement dealer or tractor store. Heck, even john deere uses the same tire and chain.

2 link ladder will be a great fit and smooth ride. Let all the air out, put a link between each tire lug and put them on as tight as you can get them. Add 12 pounds of air and go play in the snow.

what about the front tires? do I need chains on the front?

I wouldn't even try to put them on the front, there's just not enough room.

Any tire chains will help. Jack up rear end and mount on jack stands. Let out all but 1 it two psi in tires (enough to keep the bead still attached) attach chains as tight as possible! Air up tires again and chains will be tight. Chains are a nice thing. But you run them one year and may want them every year ! That is true for me.

I would not recommend tire chains on the front tires.
The question about using chains on the front tires has been debated before on this site.
Some folks have tried it and gotten away with out having any problems,
but some have tried and seriously damaged their front end drive.
The front end mechanical assembly is not as beefy as the rear,
and extra traction on the front (tire chains) could result in extra stress, in some situations,
that the could cause serious front wheel drive damage.
For the last 8 years, I have run chains on just the rear tires of my B7800 (with rear mount snow blower)
and will usually only engage 4 wheel drive on hilly sections on my icy driveway.

I got the rear v-bar chains for my BX 25, and they were great in anything. The only problem is, when I drive down the road from my one Cottage to the other Cottage about 300 yards away it is the roughest ride you could possibly imagine. So, after putting them on for the first time, I left them off for the past two years.

I had at first purchased the latter chains, but the links simply fell in between the treads of the tire, which would have made them virtually useless, so I returned them and bought the V bar.

By the way, I had to add 2" wheel spacers to the rear wheels in order to get enough fender clearace for the chains. (The ladder chains ion the front wheels n the second photo are the ones I teturned.)
