Eco Boost vs V8

Forget all the haters. Let's see the GM or Dodge boys post numbers close in a truck that's as capable. Not happening. Chris

Well according to you Ego Boosters there is no other 1/2 ton truck as capable so why bother.

OP; Congrats on the new truck-they are all good these days unlike 20 yrs ago.

Just depends what your needs are

Thanks, I agree. They're all nice rides. Not our dad's pickups.

Ah this takes me back to my grade school days, decades ago, when name calling was felt necessary to win a discussion because our mental database was yet unformed. Oh the good olé days.

Well I did mention the 6.2 liter ford as being just as capable. I will throw in the 6.2 liter GM products as well. The new GM 6.2 offering may get pretty close in comparison now four years later. Anxious to see what Ford has up their sleeve for 2015 with the diet talks.

Since you feel I am biased, you are welcome add to the list.

It is also equipped with the electronic lock RR axle (posi-traction to old schoolers like me).

Congrats on the new truck. I have a dumb question, is the electronic rear locker controllable from the cab?

The electronic lock for the rear end is inside the cab, I wish my truck had that.

I wonder what the consensus is on the electronic locking vs anti-slip. The electronic option wasn't available until a year after I bought mine but I am uncertain I would choose it today. I see advantages and disadvantages. While towing I would hate to have to select it at each launch on wet pavement but would love to be able to lock it in if ever off road.

I would not be without it. My 08 Titan has electronic lockers. I also have a 06 F350 Diesel 4x4. The Titan will flat out pull the F350 even though it has Limited Slip.

Put it in 4 low and kick on the lockers and you are pulling out what's stuck or breaking something.

Funny thing about that. You know how you find a vehicle on a lot, it's equipped about like you want it, but it has and option or two you wouldn't have necessarily thought about. That's what happened with the rear axle lock on this truck. It was an option I hadn't thought about too much, but since it was on the truck I wanted, I was willing to pay a little extra and figured it might come in handy every now and then.

Even though it was listed as electronic, I thought it was standard limited slip. About everything is electronically controlled on todays vehicles, so I just assumed it was limited slip that was electronically controlled. Not until I got home and was reading the manual did I realize that it is in fact controlled from within the cab and not engaged until the operator engages it. Not a bad thing in my mind. If it's ever needed, I have it. It wasn't a huge extra cost in the giant scheme of things.

For Chris and you other gear heads that might be interested it is a 3.31. Please comment if you desire. I would be curious as to how you think that falls within the lineup of available gear ratios.

As far as gear ratio goes I would not want any less than 3.55 and would prefer 3.73 for myself. If the 3.31 works for you that's fine.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I have limited slip on my F350 and I guess the "limited" part means it slips before it locks up. I like the idea of being able to manually lock the rear end because I usually know when I'm going to need it (coming out of my pasture on wet grass, etc.)

Thanks for the info.

Looking forward to pics of the new rig.

Congrats on buying a Ford. Like you said, it's not Government Owned.

What gear ratio did you get?

Chris

The US Government sold their last shares in GM last month...Taxpayers Don't Have Government Motors To Kick Around Any More - Forbes

Hasn't owned any shares in Chrysler since 2011...http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/22/business/us-sheds-its-stake-in-chrysler.html?_r=0

Don't forget that Ford too ad to file for Chapter 11. It was only because they did it just before the credit crisis of 2008 that they didn't need Government help. Also, don't forget, they also supported GM and Chrysler in their bid for Government assistance.

So one doesn't support either manufacturer because they required Government backing to survive...that makes a lot of sense....if everyone thought that way, the taxpayers would have never got ANY of their money back! lol Smart

It is something like 11billion that the taxpayers lost in the GM bailout. I have a relative who lost many 6 figures on GM stock when the gov. deemed the stock to be worthless but gave much away to the unions.

Nuff said here, friendly politics has gone over this to death.

I think the point is the tax payer DIDN'T get all their money back...and neither did the shareholders.

They all had their hands in the cookie jar. I am willing to let it all be history and have bought both GM and Ford since. I will not buy foreign as long as there is a US manufacturer on two feet.

Agree! The tax payers will be paid back many times over from the GDP they provide this country.

Because God knows you'd never want to support 70,000 U.S. people employed directly by Japanese auto companies or another 210,000 employed indirectly. Floyd R. Turbo, American.
