iphone 3gs ( no wifi ) issue

ok.. Have wifi at the house. use it often with my tablet. KNOW it's working.

iphone.. last night.. went to check weather.. had an issue getting it to update.. so tried to go online.. it kept using 3g.. went to settings, and network.

the wifi line is greyed out and says 'NO WIFI'

It does not say 'NOT CONNECTED'

I cannot tap ont he button and bring up the wifi setings page.

I turned phone off then on.. no change. turned airplane mode on then off.. still nada..

ideas?

Is your wifi a 2.4 or 5 GHz? If a 5, your tablet might be compatible but your 3GS definitely isn't.

probably 2.4 but don't know for certain.

phone WAS working on it . I did replace my router within the last 2ys.. but the phone always works onthe house wifi.. or has been till last night. ( have had the 3gs for a while obviously due to it's being oldtech now..

)

Cant speak to the Apple, but my wifes Android, did more or less the same thing. I had to go to Customer support with verizon, get an over the air bug fix.. reboot, worked fine before, works fine now.. can't begin to tell you why it puked.. It did it at the Tractor dealership on their WIFI, just stopped working, and I could not get it to work again at any wifi, including mine at home...This was 8 months ago. and it has worked fine every day since.:confused3:

could be what this has done.. some kind of software glitch in it's programming and it may need a patch.

i'm gonna go read up on that link posted a mssg down.

I'm no apple nut either..

Sir Soundguy...I tried to duplicate your problem but can't seem to. One thing that comes to mind is do a reset on your phone. Make sure you have a backup on your computer or prior on iCloud.

Just because you can't get wifi signal wouldn't be a reason for the phone to say "no wifi".

Did you try a two-button reset? Close all apps, then press and hold both buttons until the phone shuts off. If it doesn't turn itself back on in a few seconds after shutting off, just press the top button and let it boot up. This fixes a lot of weird things the iPhone tends to do.

I would agree, this is a better first step then if that doesn't work try my suggestion. Good luck.

The bottom on the side and the button on the front are the two buttons he's referring to. Push both together and hold for 2-3 seconds until in shuts down.

remember.. it's not even seeing wifi.

Hmmm maybe it is time to do a backup...
Then a wipe... And see what happens....
If I works.... Software at risk....
If it doesn't time for a replacement....
Oh crap... No wifi no backup without iTunes.

yep.. situation is limited here.. i'm holding out on doing the vulcan nerve pinch on it till I can figure out what to do if it doesn't come back to life. schedule is way to busy this week to drop off the grid trying to revive wifi..

Doing a wipe or perhaps more correctly stating, doing a complete reset is not a big deal. I have done this countless times on different iPhone and iPads without any issues.its actually good to do. If you're not afraid of doing so and have a question or two, ask away.
