I need a good cordless telephone that will work about 300 feet.
That would cover my garage.
I have a line in the garage but if I need to go to the house I have to hang up the cordless phone.
Same thing if I am in the house and need to go to the garage.
My cordless phones only work about 150 feet.
Any suggestions?

is your current phone 2.4 ghz or 5.8ghz, the 5.8 should go farther.

We used to use some "companion" phones in our plant that is about 450ft across. Not sure if that is the brand name or what but that is what was printed on them. Not sure exactly how they worked because they were getting phased out when I started in favor of nextel, but I know there was some sort of "base station" somewhere and each phone had a unique extension. They could not call out if I recall, but could receive calls if transferred to by the front receptionist. They could communicate with each other within the plant as well. I think we have some more lying around, I will take a better look at them and try to get you some more info.

Companion phones are proprietary for Nortel phone systems. While they work great, not viable in the OP's situation. Engenius Durafon is what I'd recommend. Not cheap, but they easily have the range that you need. With the external antenna, they'll go several hundred yards.

We have a Uniden Powermax 5.8GHz setup that has worked for me approximately 1/4 mile (line of sight).

Panasonic KX-TG243B is what we have. Good range and you can transfer calls phone to phone, which is handy if you were "in the shop" on the phone and wanted to go into the house without hanging up.

I have Vtech model cs6429 cordless phones with built in answering machine. They are crystal clear and work fine at 200 feet. I haven't tried any further since I don't have a need to. I believe they are in the 5.8 Ghz range. Owners manual is not specific on range. It will vary depending on conditions, locations, whether I have metal siding etc.

Our Panasonic KX-TG1034 is about four and a half years old and has been good so far, but we're never as far from the base as the OP. I guess my wife has gone in the house next door and it still worked OK. But it's only 1.92 to 1.93 GHz.

I get around 200 ft from the base regularly. I cant say for sure if it would reach the OP's 300. Alot of things can affect the range like base location and topography of the lot.

My advise is to buy and try.

How much money do you have?

The best long range phone on the market is the Engenius. I have sold a bunch of them..They are rugged, and they do what they say.. If you need to go a couple of miles you can put on the external antenna's on the buildings. But they are not cheap. We use them to solve the "tough dog" problems that ordinary cordless phones cannot. You need the DuraFon 1x model. If you need further info let me know.. Look around, for other suppliers to see if you can get a better deal, but I will post this site for your information.

you could also get a phone that you can put on hold while you walk to the other hand set

Why not just run a line + power 1/2 way. Then use the satellites in the house and the shed. If you get 150+ feet from the main unit, you ought to now cover it both ways (or am I missing something) ?

I went a different way for my shop phone, I have wireless internet in the shop, and have a "Magic Jack" attached to the shop computer, then a cordless 5.8 Ghz phone attached to that, so that extends my range all the way out to the garden. Or 500 feet from the house in that direction. I just "call forward" from the house to the shop so I can not answer all of the political adds, that are coming in right now.

Incorrect, the lower the frequency the greater range it has, especially through objects such as walls and trees. So 2.4 has greater range than 5.8.

I used to have a 900 Mhz phone, had great range.

The current range of phones use 1.9 Ghz, the name of these phones is called DECT 6.0, even though is uses the 1.9 Ghz frequencies.

I use Panasonic DECT phones, have great range. They will go into a 'boost' mode if the signal starts to drop. They use frequency hopping like a GSM cell phone.
I use an outdoor model in the garage away form the house, it is water proof and will float.

Shop and Compare Phones & Home Office - Telephones - DECT 6.0 Plus at Panasonic

The range extender could be used to expand the coverage really far too like ronjhall is using.

I have a Uniden "dect 6.0" Its got a grey face on it with black top. It will work about that distance, maybe farther? Our old phones that were 5.?? gbz barely works from one side of the house to the other.

I bought these refurbished by Uniden on Ebay i think from Uniden, for $59.99 2 years ago. Came with 2 phones and a base digital ansering system.

Same thing with me, there is barely enough signal to send a text outside, talking on the phone, forget it!!

Yea your missing that running power half way between the two would be in the middle of the yard. He would have to have a shed or something there that he could put the base in. You cant just have a base out in the middle of the yard.
