I'm sure that Diesel fumes are not good for you. This is obvious. But the exposure to fumes that one is likely to get operating a diesel outside is small. The average PM concentration will be very low.

Exposure to Spark ignited gasoline engines is far worse. The first reason is carbon monoixide. A gas engine without catalyst (most small engines and farm equipment) will kill you quickly in an enclosed space. Although Diesels produce more soot, they produce very little CO because they use lean burn combustion. The second reason is gas engine produce ultra fine particles (not visible). These particles are small engough to pass through the Lung alveoli resulting in entry into the blood stream. There is a lot of research in this area. I'm sure that we will hear about this in the future.

BTW: I hear exposure to exesive amounts of ammonia from cow manure is a carcinogen..............

This is not about health risk, it's about capitulating to international law and standards, one more way for the government to control your life.

Are you serious? Not more "Conspiracy Theories"! Ask those miners what they think about this new information.

Of course, the WHO also endorses we stop growing food and eating meat because it contributes to global cooli.... err... global warm.... err.... climate change. a few years ago they suggested the world turn to eating crickets and cockroaches because they were better for us and the environment. Yeah, I'dlisten to anything they have coming from their pie holes.

Well I think NASA might know a thing or two.

It is only a matter of time until the government declares water carcenogenic.
Several Years ago some Companies dumped thousands of Barrels of Atomic Waste in the Oceans. Those Barrels are now rusted away and that Waste is coming back to us in the Rains. I dont hear the E.P.A. moaning and groaning about that. Coal made America the strongest Nation on Earth. Now People wants Us to stop using It. If We stop using Our Natural Resources We will become weak. The Farmers and Coal Miners keep Us fed and warm.

Can you provide a link to that please?

What I can't work out is that I thought it was known as a possible carcinogen for a long time?

When I did my citb (heavy machinery operator) certs in the 90's, part of the test involved being told about the safety risks. The examiner (who was a friends father) exact words were - "obviously you don't want to go putting oily rags or gloves covered in diesel in your pockets as you'll get cancer of the balls"!

While cancer is definately not something to take lightly, there are a lot of carcinogens out there - anybody ever cut bracken / ferns without wearing a mask....? The spores off these plants are also carcinogenic, as are many other natural occuring things.

I guess the thing is to be sensible, wear protecive clothes / masks / gloves etc, and don't run diesel engines in an enclosed space - that's if the CO doesn't get you first! This info definately won't stop me prefering diesel over petrol evertime - I'm guessing far more people have probably died through accidents involving petrol than cancer from diesel...

Just my opinion of course

Well whatever may or may not have happened I am sure the EPA did whatever they could.

Yes it is a huge "Government Conspiracy", lets bring back the "Minutemen"!:confused2::eek::confused::p

Just saying, you want it both ways, they were wrong on some key predictions, so what makes us think they got the others correct? As for a conspiracy, not for the typical tin hat reasoning, but the more they regulate, the more they control. That's a prediction, that's a fact based on past performance.

Well someone has to take control. Can you imagine the mess this country would be without the EPA?

What dept of the EPA or reelect Obama do you work for? Seriously, the EPA did a good job of cleaning up out of control industries, then they got out of control and now are a hammer over the head of business growth.

Oh, here's your link on the ocean dumping, of course that doesn't include as many as several dozen nuclear warheads that have been lost in the world's oceans by various military around the world. Ocean disposal of radioactive waste - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So we should fire the EPA and hire you?:confused2:
