The header beams are 6x6 beams/posts 10 foot span between posts.

When I mentioned the header, I was referring to the header over the door, shown in the first two pictures you posted, not the header beam(s) for the deck roof.

In ohio, code does not require notching the post and two lag bolts per post is code.

It may be minimum-code (in Ohio) to use only two lag bolts, but more than 25 years of experience has taught me that it's much safer to notch the support posts for the beam, because anything less (IE: two lag bolts) puts the deck at risk for a possible collapse.

I suggest that you refer to the International Building Code (Also known as the Uniform Construction Code), which is likely to be more up to date with the latest reccommended best-practices.

For more information, see the following document from the American Wood Council, which is derived from the International Residential Code, and is the source of the pictures (page 8) I posted previously.

Chooglin, great build. Have started on a deck myself to extend our pool area. I'll start a thread when I can get pics up. I left the camera in wifes truck thurs evening when my 16 yr old daughter had a wreck. Very bad accident and thanking God she and two others are fine. Keep up the pics on the project.

I like your brackets, I need to make some of those for my porches.

Thanks Motor

I had these laser cut and they are 1/8" thick, I think they should really add a nice look to the deck.

I hate to rain on your parade, but are you planning to put some kind of balusters on the space between the railings and the deck? Most building codes require a suitable railing (including balusters with less-than-four-inch spacing) if the drop-off between the top of the deck and ground level exceeds 30 inches (used to be 36 inches). It sure looks like more than 30 in. to grade, at least on the downhill side.

Baluster will be the last thing on the list , I will be staining everything before I install those.

That looks really sharp! Was that something you did yourself or did you hire it out?

I was a part of doing it, but not the brains of it.My daughters boyfriend has done many of these and he was the one that did the majority of the work.I also had two other friends helping out.

You have a nice project there but before you close up under the deck I would run out 2 - 12/2 uf wires or even better if you can run out 2 - 1/2 or 3/4 pvc pipes one for lights and one for outlets. That would look real nice with a weather resistant fan in the middle and 4 floods one in each corner shining up to the peak.

I have the outlets in already and I will be adding a fan and some other lighting.wireing is under the deck already.

Everything looks great! I really like the rock landscaping as it ties in the stained wood and stamped concrete.
