Dealer sold the 6405 this week (guy came out looking at it last week).

So I dismounted the back hoe and brought it back to the dealer. He did everything he could to get me another loaner Deere, but just about everything suitable on his lot has interested buyers. But he did have this sitting on the lot with no little/no interest, so I hauled it home.

Hey, the color matches my lift. :) And check out that cute little W.R. Long bucket (brand new).

Decent machine, but the controls are all in the wrong locations. :D The missing collar mount reverser got me all the time, and the loader controls vs. the range selector did as well. I'll probably get used to it by the time the M shows up, which is still May. :(

He had just gotten in a H340 loader. Those things are nice! Can't wait to get my H260 with my machine. The H series comes fully assembled, sitting on the pallet ready to drive the tractor right up to and connect. Of course you have to mount the receivers on the tractor first, or whatever they are called.

I'm basically adding a pole barn extension. I'm not sure if I should build it right up against the dirt wall and use cinder blocks where there is direct contact?

The 3pt mounted Woods did very well. At no time did it feel anything but solidly coupled to the 6405. I went through 1/4 tank. I hope the fuel tank on this thing isn't huge, or its a guzzler!

Everything is beginning to really take shape! You'll probably have everything done by the time your new 5085M shows up! :D

I'd go with a reinforced cinder block pony wall; myself. Rebar and concrete in every 2nd hole on the blocks. If you ever have the dirt embankment cave-in or slough down into the building - the wall won't buckle.

Glad to hear that the Woods hoe performed really well. (It'll make a good trade-in for the 595... or the cash sale will be a good down payment!)

1/4 tank for all that work!?!? That's pretty cheap operating expenses!

Keep those pics comin'.

Too bad that you lost your "green" toy, but that ol' blue one should do nicely. Looks about the same size as my 7610S. (100 hp) It was a beast of a machine. Not refined, like my 5M, but very powerful. Anyway, it should handle your backhoe for a couple months.

BTW, I believe "brackets" would be the word you're looking for. :D

I wish, I added 10 gallons along the way and when I took the 6405 back to the dealer, I filled it up on the way. $120~ Of course that was after working it hard for around 30 hours or so. When I told the dealer I filled it back up, he was like "oh, you didn't have to do that". But I felt it was only fair after all the use I got out of it. That said, I probably won't bring the New Holland back with a full tank. :D

Here's a pic of my Woods RB850 blade that I rebuilt and added the angle cylinder to for full 3 way hydraulic articulation (angle, tilt and offset). Of course with the New Holland, I can only use one cylinder at a time until my 5M gets here.

Yeah, a reinforced cinder block pony wall might be just the ticket.

Definitely not the best looking machine, but it should do for now. Is that a new stack on there? It looks really tall and shiny?

Anyway, looking at that first picture I can see a little bit of your cut, and you sure have made a ton of progress!

I think its a new stack, That looks like a europiean spec machine, it has the beltline flashers instead of on top of the cab.

Yes, the stack is new. It also has a new battery and headlights. Its a 4835 model btw, so 65 hp and ~7000 lbs. Ironically, the tach doesn't work on this tractor either. It died at 2300 hours. A/C works though, which is really nice. Seat is worn through to the foam just like on the 6405.

Here are some pics of the excavation for the pole barn extension. Site is leveled to within a few inches now with an average depth of 10" from where the floor will be to allow for 6" of gravel and 4" of concrete.

My main concern is the access from the front as the driveway coming in is quite a bit higher than where the apron will be.

Yeah, you might have water where you don't want it to be..

Nice setup - I like that rear blade!

Now that's a great looking a blade! My 7 Foot Economy blade that I have doesn't look as good as yours! My salesman is trying to hook me up with a loaner too now! :D I hope all goes well with the little NH

NH is doing great but doesn't have much low end grunt. Stalls out rather easy compared to the 6405 until you get the RPMs up.

Here are a few more shots of the blade:

Picked it up from a guy in NC for $1200 when I went down there to deliver the 4700 to its new owner. Spent about another $400 at Surplus Center getting new hoses, fittings and relief valves. I repainted the blade and might do the rest of it once I get the pole barn up. Even got a fresh set of stickers from Woods to put on it when I'm done. Also had to invest in that plate for the angle feature, and of course a 3rd cylinder for it. I was able to get tsc to price match agrisupply's price of $119 for the 3.5x16 cylinder, which is what Surplus Center charges, only I saved on shipping and got the exact same Grizzly model as the offset and tilt cylinders.

I was curious about the pressure relief valves... were you trying to ensure that the cylinders wouldn't be over-pressured by the M's normal psi range?

Are the cylinders rated for less than 3,000psi?

They look pretty cool and make the layout of the hoses and cylinders real clean.

Cylinders are rated for 3000 psi. The relief valves are set to 1600 psi. They are used in case I hit an obstruction with the blade. This way, instead of bending a rod, the relief/cushion valves will allow the cylinder to move as needed. They are on the angle and offset cylinders. The tilt cylinder doesn't need one. Woods specifies the need for these on their RB850 blade. The previous owner didn't have them, but I figured it was worth it to add them to my order with Surplus Center and they help with the hose routing and the bosses to mount them were already on the blade frame.

I was wondering what where those hoses were connecting to other than the tractor, it looks really good. I bet its a real solid bloade. My dealer kind of wants to let us use a 7330 Premium IVT / AutoQuad my choice for 8 engine hours. :( , Or a New Holland TM 140 that's used of course, they don't have loaner for me for a longer period of time other than that New Holland.. Which way should I go? Get the new holland or get the JD I'm trading land 27.5.acres for 27.5. The land I'm getting is a higher sea level so I can start work. Probably going to do is plow it then disk spread manure then disk again then spread some fertilizer and go over it with the C250.

There's a label on the blade that says "warranty voided if used on tractor over 100 hp or 10,000 lbs", so I doubt I'll be able to break it what what I got and will have. :D

I'd get the 7330 and unhook the hour meter once you get close to 8 hours.

Makes me wonder if it is a coincidence that both of the loaner tractors I've had do not have working hour meters.

So should I get the 7330 or NH TM 140? I would use the 7330 on the manure spreader..

Did you make a decision on which one to get?

Made good progress on the pole barn today, especially since I had to go to an Easter Egg hunt with the family in the middle of the day.

I started out drilling the 6 24" holes for the 6x6 posts with my Shaver post hole digger. I got to try out my hydraulic down force kit for the first time.

shaver01.jpg

Unfortunately, I didn't have everything on-hand to install the relief valve, so I just connected it directly to the remote on the tractor. It worked great at first, so great in fact that I kept shearing the shearing bolt until I switched to grade 5 bolts. On my last hole, I gave it a little too much down pressure, and I broke the bracket on the tractor end.

shaver02.jpg

I'll be getting the missing fittings and installing the relief valve with the new bracket. I had all new teeth on the auger too, but the ground is so incredible hard that there was no way I would have been able to dig those holes without the down pressure kit. Completing that last hole required using the tamper bar every few minutes to loosen the soil.

Here's a shot of the 6 completed holes:

polebarndig-5.jpg

I then added a few inches of gravel to the bottom of each hole.

polebarndig-6.jpg

Bottom of holes are about 45" below where the finished floor will be.

polebarndig-7.jpg

Then it was off to Lowes to pick up a pallet of cement, 6 6x6x16 posts, lag bolts and misc lumber for bracing.

polebarndig-8.jpg

I then installed 5/8" x 6" lag bolts at the bottom of the posts.

polebarndig-9.jpg

Getting ready to raise the first post.

polebarndig-10.jpg

And it's standing.

polebarndig-11.jpg

Posts closest to shop have been plumed and braced.

polebarndig-12.jpg

Time to start mixing the cement.

polebarndig-13.jpg

1st pole took 13 80# bags.

polebarndig-14.jpg

2nd pole took 14 bags.

polebarndig-15.jpg

And that's it for today. I hope to get the remaining 4 poles set tomorrow.

Lookin' real good! The picture of the augered hole leaves little doubt about the hardness of the soil... whoa! The side walls were polished and smooth!

I bet that was a pretty good POP when the brace snapped. The flaked paint tells a story...

Thanks for the pictures, pclausen. That view is downright glorious! :D Stayin' home and workin' around the place would be just fine.. just fine.
