Trying to figure out attachments for my new 49 HP compact. Read a great thread on counterweight, so will be filling rears, and want to get a stout Box blade to carry around while "loadering" & "grappling"

My question - obviously not all box blades are created equally....what are the "good" or "better" brand names that are HD and heavy? Does Woods lead the pack or are there other brands equally well made for similar cost?

I am currently trying to determine which box would best suit my needs. I initially thought it would be the RBX series as they are the heaviest. The RBX 78" model weighs 890 Lbs. Whereas, the RO (rollover) 72" weighs 710 LBS. I want the best penetration possible with the scarifiers. I can crank the box forward with the top link and lift the rear of the box of the RBX series so that more weight is applied to the teeth and blade is above the tines at an angle and not pulling the dirt and rock. Or, with the rollover series the box is directly above the teeth and possibly exerting more downward weight on the teeth. The RBX series would allow me to rip and pull debris at the same time, and the RO series won't. However, the RO will allow me to backfill although I don't really foresee any need for that and they (RO) are a little less expensive and they might actually work better for just ripping which is what I am really trying to achieve. I have been corresponding with the folks at Dirt Dog and they have been very helpful, but they haven't gotten back to me since my last email which ask the questions I have posted here.

It is actually a 65" and it does very well. The overall width is a bit more probably closer to 72", but the box itself is 68" I have 337 acres and use it to maintain my roads. Much of it is shale. I got a good buy on it, $350.00 so I bought it. I would prefer a reg box blade because you could run the scarifiers along with the box blade. With the roll-over you have to use the scarifiers to loosen the ground and then roll the blade to use it as a box blade and move dirt. It was cheap, well built and acts a a great ballast. I have a receiver welded into and never take it off.

I pull my wood trailer with it and it makes a great ballast when moving logs. It is a perfect width for my tractor. I actually think I could pull a 7 foot, but it would hang out past my wheels and be a pain when using it in the woods while cutting firewood.

Maybe in ideal circumstances. My 81" Gannon will stop my 12,000lb 75HP tractor.

Both of my roll-overs will put the teeth 10" in the ground, not sure if any other boxes do that other than the industrial units, and the industrial units are not really designed to rip and scrape at the same time either. Its rip, then scrape.

dMy boxblade is an industrial Gannon built for Frontier as the BB1284 7' boxblade with hydraulic scarifiers 1250 lbs. Works well with my 4520 which weighs about 5500 lbs with weights. Great hard working tool.:thumbsup:
